Are the days of rampant cheating in Texas back?

Baylor, TCU, OKST???

I mean come on. Boosters have to be paying these kids, right? There's so much moneh down there that I think alums at some of those schools just got fed up with losing.

Baylor basketball is another example where it is the worst kept secret that Scott Drew is cheating like crazy.

I think TCU basketball is going to be a good test case. TCU basketball is lower than nothing and Dixon is simply not a good recruiter. If he starts piling up Top 10-15 recruiting classes, it will be pretty obvious that boosters are buying them (without Dixon's knowledge I'm sure).

Baylor, TCU, and A&M all definitely do. A&M is in the SEC now though so it kind of comes with the territory. SMU is the same way for basketball -- you have Larry Brown at the helm so cheating is just gonna happen.

Dallas is a wild recruiting scene for basketball. Saw a couple of national guys say it makes Chicago look like JV in terms of the stuff that goes on. Prime Prep was absolutely horrible in terms of monetizing their prospects a couple years back.

Doesn't seem to be any smoke around Tech, UT, or Houston.

And I was just in Waco last week driving through on my way from meetings in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas... Waco is a sh*thole really. nothing there other than it is close to those other cities. And really there is limited to no fan base in Dallas or Austin. My son wanted a Baylor hat, and the stores in either city didnt carry any. I had to spot into Waco on the way back to pick up something.

Seems to me like UT had a monopoly on cheating and now those other school are finally catching up. They realize that you can get away with pretty much anything.

Stache, you sure as heck covered a lot of miles. Texas is like forever driving. Ha,ha

Houston brought in their best ever class, so you'd have to start looking at them too. I think there some big money boosters trying to get them to Big 12 status.

I'm not sure UT has ever had to cheat but now that the other TX schools and OKST are doing it, they might have to.

I mean lets get real here. Sure, Texas is a fertilile recruiting market but can that state truly sustain a Top 2 confefence in football and basketball?

All those are about 4 hours separated from each other.. the beauty of Waco area is the highway is 85 miles per hour speed limit :). I was in love

Houston is pretty desperate for a B12 invite so nothing would surprise me. Still though, the Houston area has an incredible amount of football talent and the school is somewhat prominent in the city so I think they can just do what Pitt does and grab a few of the top players just due primarily to location and still wind up doing well. Aside from the JUCO, their top guys last year were from Houston (or Houston's suburbs).

I'll be interested to see if UT starts to have rumors come out about them. Under Mack Brown, they used to have almost their entire recruiting class filled prior to that class' senior year. Strong is slow playing guys instead which is leading to some dogfights down the stretch.

I don't know about the sustainability of Top 2 Conferences with just Texas -- a down year in the state would be really bad in terms of teams competing nationally -- but in a typical year? Yeah, I think you can sustain it pretty well. The populations are booming, money is pouring in at the HS level, and basketball is really only just starting to take off.

The difference in talent level between Texas HS football and WPIAL football is stark. Not necessarily at the top end because elite talent is elite talent, but there's just a lot of depth. Which, really, you'd expect given the population disparity.

Houston also made a great coaching hire getting the OC from Ohio State. Great coach, great recruiter.

Everyone who does something better than Pitt is cheating. Pitt is never cheating.

They just realize that cheating in college sports pays big dividends. Even if you get caught cheating or trying to cover up atrocious crimes like child rape, the NCAA still won't do much. Too much money at stake for all involved.

Baylor is cheating and it appears to be working. The program is relevant in football after decades of irrelevancy and being a laughing stock. No one felt sorry for Baylor when it sucked all those years and now that the program is top 10 people have an issue with it. What is disgusting is the sexual misconduct by the football players that is running rampant. Glad to see Shawn Oakman being investigated right before the draft, which I'm sure is going to hurt his stock, as it should.

I sure hope Pitt starts getting its hands dirtier because as a fan being relevant on the greatest day of the week is all that matters to me.

There is really no reason not to cheat. There's probably a 1-5% chance of getting caught and if you do get caught, you miss 1 meaningless bowl game. Who cares?

With ridiculously light penalties, the NCAA has pretty much given the green light for cheating.

Can ANYONE win without cheating?

PSU has to be paying big money to get anyone to play there for the Barker. Or is he just a great recruiter. Cant accuse other schools of wrongdoing because they recruit well and not point at eastern schools. If Pitt lands Wade, Judson, Hansard, are my Panther Club bros cutting checks ?
