Are we back in the top 25

I honestly think we'll be the top or 2nd in others receiving votes and if we beat Miami on Friday we will be back at around 23rd.

We're easily in and Poker is perpetually drunk as you can see from these posts. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Rumor is 27 this week. Not suprised that the local media stabs us in the back. Beat Miami (which we got no help from the weather and who is a good team) and we can push 23.

While Werner is a hack and a clown, and don't follow him on Twitter or click his PG articles... anyway,

The only thing that matters is what the playoff committee thinks of us. We will find out Tuesday where we are in the true rankings. All these other polls are insignificant after October

We are a fringe top 25 team at this point because we have no real good wins, so even though it would be nice to see a number next to our name this week when we play Miami, it really doesn't matter much. We beat Miami and we will be ranked going into the bowl with a decent chance to end up as top 15 with a nice bowl game against an SEC opponent.

Tell me about that big Navy win please.

Ultimately it won't matter as a win vs Miami will do it.

But here is my problem with werner. Every other hometown guy always pulls the strings to inflate the local teams rankings. (Even though he doesn't do it anymore, but like spurrier always voting for duke) warner wants to play the integrity card...fine, I am okay with that, provided his editor and other members of the sports department have the same standard for psu.

There are at least a handful of teams that will drop out of the rankings all together. If Pitt is not in the Top 25 it is not that big of a deal but IMO would just be terribly inaccurate. I think they were borderline this past week, but no real big victory and other teams with similar resumes might have. At this point in time though I don't know how anyone could scramble to find 25 teams better than Pitt but I'm sure the polls will somehow.

There were only three teams, LSU, Wisconsin and USC, that dropped out of the top 26 (there was a tie for 25th) from last week's coaches poll.

Ive said since day one with Werner, he is negative Pitt all the time... just horrendous to read. The only time he has written more than 3 articles in a week was when Boyd had the DUI, and he was ALLLLL over that. Be nice to be all over the team.

I am sure he is just doing his doing what his bosses tell him to do though, so I cant be too upset with the guy that is probably making about 30K a year in between his life long goal of writing a great novel. Still, I love traveling around the country and reading game day from other teams. It is always so passionate, with lots of game day information, and then I read the Pittsburgh papers... and just dream of better days :)

There is a Werner Pitt article in the paper pretty much every day, and has been since the season started, with the exception of our bye week.

Memphis wasn't in the top 25/26 in the coaches poll last week. They were 28th. They didn't drop out of the top 25 because they weren't in it to begin with.
These rankings are so messed up. So they weren't in the coaches poll at all, but were 21st in the ESPN poll? Usually the two different polls are at least somewhat similar, but this year you have situations like that where they are that drastically different.

ESPN doesn't have a poll. Well, OK, they do some sort of poll that they call their power rankings. But even they don't use that when they refer to how teams are ranked. Do you mean they were 21st in the official playoff rankings? Well, all I'll say about that is that those people come up with some stuff that leaves you shaking your head as well.

Yep agree. Yeah the playoff rankings is what ESPN shows by team's names on the scoreboard ticker. So they had Memphis shown as #21 this week, yet unranked in the coaches poll. Mind boggling yes, I can see them hovering around #25 last week but now I don't see any way they are ranked. I think Navy is by far that conference's best team at the moment and everyone else that has been ranked are solid football teams that won a lot of games against cupcakes. Houston with 1 loss may be flirting with the #25 ranking but probably should drop out too, UConn is not a good football team.

IMO Memphis is just getting way too much love for the win against Ole Miss. There were talks about them being in the playoffs a few weeks ago. Since then they've lost 3 straight. Navy, Houston, and Temple are all at least somewhat respectable teams but a playoff team should beat them all easily.

I'd love some examples of Werner being a 'hack'; my suspicion is that there are none, and that you're all being critical simply because he isn't an effusive homer. Some of you guys need to take your blinders off. Moreover, he is infinitely better than Zeise, who doesn't try to hide his contempt for working the college beat (his coverage of Pitt basketball screams 'I don't really give a ****').

If his employer was consistent then I have no problem with it. But if Psu had Pitts resume, they most certainly would get voted in by the pg voter

Exactly. Outrage is warranted if we beat Miami and aren't included.

Do you really think that his boss is dictating his vote in the AP poll? Really?

Damn, the paranoia on this board can run deep sometimes.
