So it's easy to surmise that after being told in 2009 a channel wasn't a possibility, Swofford spent the next two years vetting numerous schools for membership.
Not that it really matters, but I wonder who else was on the list for ACC expansion at that time, if Swofford spoke to anyone else or if he was zeroed in primarily on those two targets. It would be easy to assume that there may not have been many other candidates because Pitt and Syracuse were involved so heavily in the first ACC raid of the Big East.
Either way, this deal is a huge step forward for the conference. And I have to give kudos to John Swofford, because he pulled this off over a six or seven year period while navigating an ever-changing landscape and in the age of social media. Not a single true leak to the very end.
