You know, if the NCAA so wasn't in a rush for a trophy, a rush to judgment, they could have really nailed PSU and connected all the dots and I am sure the findings would have been ugly, actually and possibly maybe so ugly that it would have ruined the institution, and honestly as much as we hate PSU, that would have been bad on so many levels.
I think they felt they made enough of a compelling argument, and presented it to PSU who accepted it knowing it could be far worse. That it was not a smack on the wrist, but a decent slap in the face. What the NCAA didn't expect is that there would be no such humility from the PSU folks, that they believed their Pope was infallible and that their own incompetency in other investigations would be used against them.
And all of a sudden, remarkably, the guilty were now the victims and the NCAA are the perps.
