Au’Diese

That was one of the best games any Panther has had in a long time. That it came in Cameron indoor makes it that much more special. He should be all over the highlights on sportcenter despite the loss.

He is coming on like a freight train. We need our other two sophomores to make some strides like he has.

Another example of why fans need to be patient with guys early in their careers. People were ready to run him off much like Patterson, McGeee, and others. Coulibaly has some nice minutes as well and will at least be nice depth/ role player moving forward if not a key contributor

but yeah very impressive performance by Toney. Exciting to think how much better he’ll be next year and his senior year

Here's a downer thought. If Jeffress picks Pitt and gets here next year, how do Toney, William and Justin all fit on the same court at the same time playing nearly the same position.

Problems … problems ...
That is the equivalent to a guy who has been stuck in the desert complaining about someone dropping off too much water.

Not really and I say that because with WJ 6'7 and Justin 6'6 and Toney 6'5 with Big John and Trey and X. That small ball will work in 5 to 7 min stretches and it could be dangerous.

Great game by Toney no doubt and respectable showing by the entire team. However, we shouldn't become overboard optimistic as a result and expect to reach a 10-10 ACC record, or the like. That would shows immediacy bias as much as being overboard pessimistic after an actual bad loss would have been.

Last night Duke played man to man and we were able to spread things out and drive the ball to the hoop. So, to a large extent, that helped us remain competitive last night. If we were facing a team playing a lot of zone the team (and Toney) would have no doubt been less effective offensively. We fans need to keep things in overall perspective. It still appears, IMHO, that our ceiling remains in the range of 3-5 more wins.

Bottom line, at least for me, is that I won't become disappointed if 3-5 more is the actual outcome by ratcheting up my expectations due to a nice competitive performance vs Duke on the road. Not that many Pitt fans are doing much ratcheting up.

Yep. That is why I mentioned and said, not trying to start anything, but the fact that Drumgoole is already being recruited over and likely will be a candidate to move. I think Justin can develop more into a stretch 4 or at least play that position at times. Toney and the dunks were great, but also hitting some threes, looks like that JB/Wanamaker Swiss Army Knife who just can play many roles.

Everyone needs to breathe deep on frosh and even sophomores
It’ll work out
It always does

People were saying the same thing about Wan and Toney earlier this year. Not every frosh comes in and adapts to the significant increase in competition right away. Heck even Coulibaly showed some flashes last night that indicated he could be a contributor over time.

my expectations for this year are still that we don't have a shot at the NCAA and the NIT is a stretch. so, all upside if I am wrong. I am however, really, really excited about next year and the next year and the next year !

His only flaw was rushing a couple times
Understandable with a lottery pick patrolling the paint .
His take to the hoop surprised the hell out of me- made a couple nice passes from the high post

akc has skills- just growing pains

As you know, this is Div 1 basketball, teams play man to man. Occasionally
you see a team go to a zone (even Capel does once in a while.) What 'Cuse
does is so untypical of bball at this level. 'Cuse makes it work, but most
teams at this level carve up a zone easily. We tried it last night and Duke
quickly took advantage. Aside from h.s., I never came across very many
college coaches who believe in a zone and would opt for a zone over a
man to man.
But your point is a good one about Toney's performance and what would
have happened against a zone. Despite what I said above about teams
being able to "carve up a zone easily"...we know all too well which team
has trouble doing the "carving"....LOL With that said I can't wait for the
home game with the 'Cuse....I'm hoping/expecting to see us change against
their zone.

I was at the game directly across from Duke bench in the first row above the students. I could not believe the way Toney played. He was the best player on the floor, not intimidated by the environment and played outstanding. Lets hope this is his coming out party, he has a beautiful shot and the way he attacked the basket was something we havent seen from a lefty since Julius Page.
A entertaining game. My seats were at the top row but before the game a 40 year season ticket holder said he didnt think the 2 people next to him were coming. He invited us to sit next to him. It was my son's xmas gift and what a night it turned out to be. My 13 year old had a duke jersey on and then he would put his pitt shirt on when they made a run. I did notice he cheered more for Pitt, was so proud.
