Awful Announcing article about ESPN/ACC Network

While it probably will happen that way, this article just has staff members speculating what will happen with espnnews.

It could be interesting if the deal between Disney and Fox goes through with ESPN acquiring several of the regional fox sports networks.

Please don't tell me that's the only cable package that will carry the channel. Idk how that works, just that Syracuse way up in western NY is the only NY team even in the ACC.

No, it was just the first up to negotiate. ESPN will be bundling the ACC Network with the SEC Network and other channels as it goes into negotiations to renew carriage. That's why it waited to launch it until the majority of these agreements were up for renewal. It will get wide distribution. The only question is how the in-market and out-of-market rate will compare to the SEC Network. It may be lower but will likely be in a similar ballpark. It's going to be big money for the ACC. That's why the schools, including Pitt, are spending millions on network production facilities. Those expenditures are not exactly the riskiest undertaking for the schools.

But most ACC schools are still going to trail the Big Ten and SEC schools in revenues, if for no other reason than revenue from gate receipts.

That was the first one that came up for negotiation, but it was a big one to put pressure on others. Not only will the ACC Network be packaged with ESPN channels, but ABC as well as Disney channel. And if they purchase the regional sports networks from Fox that will add additional pressure.

That is why ESPN and the ACC decided to wait until 2019 to launch. A large amount of cable deals with the providers are coming up to negotiation. That is why the SEC Network launched in 2014 instead of 2012 when the SEC presidents wanted it to go.

Just an FYI for people think that Pitt "doesn't care", they are investing $13M on upgrades/equipment/studio space for the ACC Network.

Also next year Notre Dame is moving their home game with Syracuse and it will be played in Yankee Stadium in New York City.

New York media market is important for the ACC.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

ACC network will not match the Big Ten as the lead time and following in the majority of markets is still in demand. But I am not sure the MD/VA or NY markets will be the windfall that they projected. I expect the ACC network will be in the 7 to 10 million the first couple of years. But then the cash should be much higher depending the cost per subscriber and number of markets the ACC network penetrates.

If it did that it would be way ahead of the BTN.

The start up sharing of cost between Fox and the Big Ten are now much lower. The income is much higher and can grow although it will be smaller in percentage. ACC is different in make up but it will provide additional revenue once up and running. ACC still has great demographics so hopefully it is a winner.

The article discusses what I’ve long suspected, that ESPN News will become the ACC network when the time comes. Much easier to reformat it than fight for carriage of another channel in this climate.

I said that aong time ago but now I actually don't think it will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if ESPNews was rebranded but its not going to turn into the ACC Network.

There is so much content out there and ESPN owns so much that they could rebrand it into something else. Heck, NBC is making money off the NHL and EPL. They could buy those rights and put NBCSN out of business. There's so much soccer content out there, unlimited college basketball, tons of college football, and I think the NHL could do reasonably well back on ESPN.

And soon you are going to see Disney/ESPN launch their own streaming platform like a Netflix or Hulu. Thought you could beat the system by cutting the cord? Nope. If you want to get rid of cable but still get ESPN, you're probably going to have to subscribe to their streaming platfo for $30-$40 per month.

I'm telling you, people are going to say, "remember when I paid $150 per month and all the channels were on 1 platform, wished it could be like that again."

Yeah can't say that doesn't sound likely. As we get further into the technological age of course they would do something like that making things more inconvenient. I remember how annoying it was having cable and pitt playing games on espnu when that channel was only offered on dish.
