Good luck to him. For Pitt’s sake it would be ideal for him to get the job and keep it for a couple years with success.
At the same time, for Capel to have at least some success in the coming season, on the order of .500 overall (Unlike most, I remain convinced he’ll be kept another couple seasons unless he completely craters, due to the buyout still being fairly large but mostly just because Pitt will be really reluctant to fire him … also unlike most, total cratering is NOT in anyone’s best interest; it’s a really bad thing).
Then, in 2024 if Capel has plateaued (or worse) after an acceptable 2023, Pitt should have a far, far more manageable buyout, and can go after BK. Maybe BK will be a somewhat hot commodity yet not SO hot that he’ll still amenable to ‘come home’. I think it needs two years; in his first year he ( and his team) will just be getting through growing pains and it wouldn’t be as easy to evaluate him.
A great deal of dubious scenarios in there, I realize. But, as mentioned, I don’t see it nearly as certain JC is going to be jettisoned after the 2023 season unless he absolutely craters (worse even than KS) … in which case Pitt might be forced to make a move but grabbing for BK will be too soon (plus even he might think the job is too odious).
