Barnes

Right he needs a couple of years after, where the whole roster are his recruits, he is now playing with Graham and Chryst recruits give him the benefit of the doubt. Be patient. Pitt is going through growing pains

Spot on, a loss stinks... Patience !

I can't help but wonder what Barnes is thinking about the direction of this team. He did not hire the Duzz and may have no loyalty to him. If Stallings proves to be a good hire, and there is no football improvement next year, well.............
The Chancellor haired this coach. Duzzi will be here as long as the Chancellor wants him to be here.

So you agree it's speculation. Losing Bis on the OLINE may be addition by subtraction, the same could be said for most of the LBs, Lewis, etc. The biggest loss may be Conner of he goes pro. Peterman has been hit or miss. MacVittie should be at least solid since he ran a similar offense in high school.
No reason to think the defense can't be better next year, even with the losses of Jarrett and Price, who are really the only players on defense worth their weight on that side of the ball.

Bisnowaty is projected as high as the second round. How is that addition by subtraction?

Connor the biggest loss? He has not been 100% (understandably so) and quite frankly, is about the easiest one to replace in this offense given the depth at running back.

As for Peterman........his greatest strength is that he has played two years. Whoever is our QB will be starting new. Macvittie in his first season...week 2 at happy valley? later in the year at VA Tech?

This offense will not be as good next year. The defense however can only go one way. On that we agree.

Agree with a lot of this, RB generally the most replaceable position, especially in the NFL but in college as well.

OL not so much, it is by far the strength of the team, if the guys stepping in next year aren't as good as we think it could be a long season.

If we played penn states schedule our record would have one loss.
Why do people say stupid things like this
So would we have beaten OSU or Michigan?
I'm assuming you think we would have beaten
Ohio State. Your reasoning must be that Miami is obviously better than Ohio State

The skill set of the qbs psu faces fits more into the strength of our defense. aside from Ohio state and Michigan, Miami would be the 3rd toughest opponent for penn state.

7-2....no way in hell we beat osu...it took two special teams miracles for psu to win.

OSU at Penn State is kind of like VaTech at Heinz. The buckeyes never play well there. Can't believe the way they totally throttled Nebraska yet look so inept against PSU.

But yeah, we are definitely 7-2 with that schedule. Minnesota might be close, but think we would win. Same with Temple.

Agree that losing Bis doesn't make you better.
That said, one would hope all our young wideouts improve.
And in theory, the team should benefit from year two of the same playbook.
Certainly, if the offense was struggling, the new playbook excuse would have been thrown out there.

Bisnowaty has not been great this year. He's a solid player, but has had too many mental mistakes at critical times given that he's a senior:

PSU game, resulting in a punt:
3rd and 1 at PITT 22
(15:00 - 3rd) Nathan Peterman pass complete to Ejuan Price (actually Tipton-ESPN mistake) for 5 yards to the UP27 (Wartman-White, Nyeem;Bowen, Manny), PENALTY UP ineligible downfield on pass (Adam Bisnowaty) 5 yards to the UP17, NO PLAY.

PITT down to VT by 10:
1st and 10 at PITT 25
(7:10 - 4th) Peterman, Nathan pass incomplete, PENALTY PITTSBURGH holding (Bisnowaty, Adam) 10 yards to the PITTSBURGH15, NO PLAY.

Bis simply hasn't looked great at times this year, giving up lots of pressure on the QB.

Partially agree on Conner, mainly because he has started to get in the habit of trying to run laterally vs. vertically, which is his strength. Moss looks to be a great weapon going forward, with Ollison hopefully sticking around even though he has been limited this season. Sibley coming in next year looks great on tape.

I'm not sure about the QB position. MacVittie played some impressive FB in his single HS season as a starter. Definitely has the measurables to see over the line, as well as the speed to take off when needed. Peterman has been serviceable, but has really hurt the team of late with his decision making.

No its not, but nobody wins changing coaches every four years. At some point someone has to get a chance to make a change and usually it doesn't happen overnight unless you find a Meyer or Saban.

Hope you're right, but frankly that's optimism based on speculation. Not exactly a track record to bank on.

So, if we changed to Saban, we wouldn't win quick ? You have to pay to play big boy football, no on the job training, which is what Pitt does. My point is, the right coach, has to be a great recruiter , could win here in a few years , at least with our schedule

And I'm on record , Duzz gets 4 years at least

Pretty sure he said "unless you find a Meyer or Saban". There's not many of those coaches around. The only coach currently in the market (assume) who could bring some serious credentials to PITT would be Les Miles, and that will never happen at PITT. PITT would have to pony up over 5 million, plus surround him with a great staff. No way PITT is willing to pay 10 million dollars.

Actually there are like 5 to 10 coaches at smaller schools, that would win here and fast. We made our bed, we just need to ride this out and hope and wish for the best.

Recruiting is not very good, and that should be main ingredient getting this turned around. This year it's actually embarrassing

What 5-10 coaches are you referring to that would "win here and fast"?

It's your choice to look at recruiting rankings this early in the year. All I know is PITT had a solid class sign LOIs last year in many areas of need, and I see no reason to believe the same won't happen this year. Although star gazing is great, I always like to focus on the quality of the other schools who were recruiting that player. Nearly all of the players had several P5 offers to chose from, and decided to go with PITT. There are also several players PITT is still very much in the mix for.

You really want to go down that road? You want to compare resumes? Stallings reached the field of 64, six times in 16 years. Pathetic

We were lucky to finish in the top half of the ACC with Dixon. A 5 year stagnant load of mediocrity is what he was producing and I'm glad Stallings is in Oakland and Jamie is in Ft Worth.

Yep. That's my prediction. His hiring of Stallings was telling. Plus he must see by now that playing at Heinz and always being third fiddle on the Northshore is a big problem he can't solve.
Given how the hiring of Stallings went down, I wouldn't look forward to watching him hire a football coach. I'd rather see HCPN get a 20-year contract extension first.

I don't think Miles could command that type of money now.

Ron Zook is a lot better than people give him credit for. Following Spurrier was a tough act to follow at UF & Meyer won a NC with a roster of mostly Zook guys. He gave Illinois a pulse and took them to a Rose Bowl. The guy may be weird and a mediocre coach, but he is a helluva recruiter.

Paul P on the other hand, is like the grim reaper.

How many transfers has Pitt had over the past 4 years? Coaching turnover has decimated the depth of this team. Not to mention Chryst was a terrible defensive recruiter. Not sure his offense of recruiting was that great either. Are any of the Qb's on the roster his recruit? WR's haven't shown much. The lineman are his for the most part and that's it.
