Barstool Pitt @stoolpitt, tweeted buyout for Stallings settled for after ACC tourney.

Not sure if that is after today's loss or Championship.

When barstool sports breaks news it will be a first. They are more into naked coed and drinking stories than legit news

what if Stallings and pitt win the ACC tournament and make the sweet 16?

They could build an outdoor track with that...
Exactly!
This is why hiring the right people is so important!

Here we're "nickel & diming" sports across the board, not hiring extra coaches or adequate assistants and $6.5 mill goes out the door ?

To get rid of someone who shouldn't have been hired in the first place!

Spending on PITT athletics is a Zero Sum Game! Spend in one sport others have to make it up or take a spending cut.

Gallagher and the PITT Leadership Team better wake up from their academic stuper!
If they weren't watching the Stalling hire they better put their Chardonay down and pay attention to future sports coaching hires! It's a dirty, sweaty, business, someone has to win and someone has to lose, it's part of the U and PITT Leadership should be puttin more time into this segment of the U!

Funny how that 6.5 mill buyout keeps popping up on different forums. I first saw it here. Then on facebook. Now this. Ain't the internet great?

We did overachieve at the Day of Giving. Maybe take some of the money from there, or have another Day of Giving. The Day of Sacking.

The rumors from the boards (now claimed by barstool) is actually 6.25 mil by the way.

Seriously, what does anyone at The Fan know?

And why would we use them as a reference for anything?

The only reason for KS to negotiate is to get away from the nightmare he’s living !
No one ( fan ) was happy with this hire , but no one expected it to be this bad and that includes KS , couldn’t blame him one bit to take the money and run as far from Pgh as he can .

It makes sense for Stallings. Remember, he was on his way out at Vandy, in fact my office neighbor ran in when we hired him than us for taking Stallings off their hands. So before these 2 miserable years in Pittsburgh, he was facing scrutiny at Vandy for a few more. He could trade all that in for, after tax, 4 million in cash. If he drops that into a retirement account and withdraws 4% every year, he's making more than double the average U.S. household income doing nothing. That ain't a bad life.

I thought he wasn’t leaving?

That was and is my opinion and I'll stick with it until I see KS driving out of town!
But given the latest/greatest rumors/information it's likely that I'll be wrong which is fine since KS was a terrible hire and a worse coach.

I was just commenting on the proposed / rumored buyout and the waste of $ 6 + million to get rid of a coach who shouldn't have been hired, if PITT Leadership had properly conducted their "due dilligence" on a multi million dollar, six year contractual transaction!

That's $ 6 + mill which could have been invested in other sports endeavors.

PITT will now look to recoup the buyout from basketball other athletic programs, which is the exact definition of a Zero Sum Game.

Their usual methodlogy is to skimp on assistants and assistant coach pay which ends up being couner productive forcing HC's to be less productive and turnover in that area.

But we'll see won't we!

This is a perfect opportunity for AD Lyke to attain PITT Superstar Status or PITT AD business as usual.

Wins and losses are zero sum. Profits are not.

Also, give ADHL a chance at a major coaching hire. Of her three coaching hires, two have been great and one has excellent potential.

Barnes should have to kick in at least half.

LOL!!! He’s actually probably in line to be GETTING SOME of it. For his, you know, “help” in KS getting this great deal.

First point there are NO profits from PITT athletics. PITT sports in total are a revenue / cash drain on the University. Many posters have pointed this out and presented the numbers.

Maybe this will help! Here's the definition right off the internet of Zero Sum Game.
Definition of zero-sum game
: a situation in which one person or group can win something only by causing another person or group to lose it
  • Dividing up the budget is a zero-sum game.

So yes wins and losses are a Zero Sum Game and so is an athletic budget or PITT athletic expenditures.

At PITT money spent on PITT athletics is carefully allocated due to the lack of sufficient revenues from sports and low donations.

So if PITT blows $ 6+ mill to send Stalling on a great summer vacation if will have to reduce the sports budget or not spend money on other PITT athletic endeavors to make up the $ 6 mill, offset by an increase in revenues from basketball attendance.

The PITT athletic budget is the Ultimate Zero Sum Game!

On the contrary, Barnes might get at least half - from Stallings.....his reward for: (1) hiring Stallings, and then (2) bequeathing him that ridiculous contract.

Profits can be negative - and they most certainly exist.
