What happened??
Baseball was never great but seemed to be better with the old coach??

Softball is horrible after a championship season last year, then they make a very questionable coaching change? What is going on?

Both finally won today
very rare day indeed that they both win on the same day. Baseball beat VT 1-0 after being outscored 27-5 in the first 2 games of the series. Baseball is now 7-11.

Softball beat Duke 5-3 after losing the first 2 games of the series. Softball, which was 1 out away from winning the ACC Tournament Championship last year, is now 4-21, yikes!!

The HC means less in baseball than any other major team sport. Pitt baseball has an A10 level of talent playing in the ACC.

I believe the softball coach moved onto Louisville by her choice. We didn’t force her out.

I heard Lyke wanted to make a change...

Pathetic if we lost a HC we wanted to Louisville.

Softball is 4-21 after a championship run last season?? You can't tell me it's a talent issue...

Once again, the biggest issue is pitching. Pitt's best pitcher got hit with a line drive in the third inning of the first game and has not pitched since.

Pitching is far and away the biggest determining factor in who wins softball games, and right now Pitt doesn't have a good one. And while you can blame the coach who just got here last summer for that, it's also true that pitcher is one position that the coach who left didn't do as good a job as you would hope in recruiting. Hence the reason why we don't have anything approaching an ACC level pitcher to take Sarah Dawson's place.

To put some numbers on it, here are the ERAs of the four pitchers besides Dawson that Pitt has used so far this season. Keep in mind that this is runs per 7 innings, not per 9 innings:

Abby Edwards: 4.93
Brittany Knight: 5.50
Taylor Rahach: 8.87
Alexee Haynes: 42.00 (only 1-2/3 innings)

That's a combined 163-2/3 innings pitched with a combined ERA of 6.29. A college softball team isn't going to win many games when they give up more than 6 earned runs per game.
