We lost 6 of our 8 starting position players from last season and 4 pitchers including the top 2 starters ......

In addition, 2 of the expected top 3 starters for this season are out for the year with injuries (one with Tommy John surgery and the other with knee surgery) ......

Freshman and JUCO's are going to have to contribute this year ..... we are young, have little OF depth, and the starting pitching may be a problem with the above injuries ......

We'll have to see if the returning players improved and how much the Freshman and JUCO's can contribute ...... it could be a tough year, let's see.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it could be a very long year. Hoping for the best. Lets just not take last.

And we weren't all that good last year.

We were voted last in the Coastal Division in the preseason poll. If you look at the poll numbers between us and Virginia Tech almost all the coaches picked the two of us to finish last and next to last in some order.

Tough loss for Pitt today against a respectable B12 program in KST. 2 run HR in Top of 9th gives KST the 1 run win. Pitt had a runner on 3rd with 1 out in B9 but could not get him in.

K State's first three runs came when with one on and two out Pitt committed an error to allow the inning to continue and the next K State batter hit a three run homer.

The homer in the 9th came after Pitt got the first two outs of the inning, then a single and a home run.

Just beat Delaware 3-2. Scored two in the bottom of the 8th to break a 1-1 tie, and then Delaware loaded the bases with two outs in the 9th. They got an infield single to score one, and then Chentouf came on and got the last out.

I have no idea if any of these teams they beat are any good but a sweep of Delaware and a split with KST/OSU would be the minimum expectation for an ACC program i'd guess. So a good weekend. The irony is they could have played in Pittsburgh the first 2 weekends as the weather couldn't be better.

I wonder if our weather was warmer than there!

For what it's worth, Kansas State picked 8th in preseason big 12 poll. Big ten only released top 6 from what I could find. Including a tie for
6th, Ohio state was not in the poll.

I think the real irony is that the first day of the college baseball season coincided with the first day of full squad workouts for the Pirates and several other major league baseball teams. That perfectly encapsulates how completely moronic the NCAA baseball schedule is.

Yea, college baseball caters to the MLB Draft and Summer Wooden Bat Leagues. It SHOULD run from April-August instead of February-June. That could help raise its profile and give more programming to conference networks.

How many collegiate sports are played in July and August?

None in July, football and men's and women's soccer in August.

In any event, starting the college baseball season in the middle of February and the college softball season a week before baseball is moronic.

None and that's part of my point. No other college sports competition. Instead of showing game replays in July, ACCN can show live baseball games.

And for northern programs. June and July home games replace February Florida games and March home games meaning less missed classes, less travel, and better attendance.
