I was there at the
Barclay Center yesterday.
Ya gotta be a little nuts
to watch this much
Bball....4 games.
I was really impressed
by 6-2 Iona. Of course
as you undoubtedly
know, Pitino is their
coach. They're a mid
level (supposedly) team,
but they have talent and
thy play man to man D
as you would expect from
Pitino. They defensed
St. Bonnies all over the
floor and won by 15. I'll
go on record now and
predict will hear more
from them this year.
This hire says it all IMO
about hiring the right
coach. You will win.

Oh yeah, Va Tech looked
good beating Okl. ST. I
expect the Hoakies to be
in the upper echelon of
the ACC with Duke, UVA,
and NC.

Mike Young is one of the best coaches pound for pound in the NCAA

I agree that he's a very
good coach, and has VT
looking good again this
yr. As for "pound for
pound one of the best."
Well maybe, but I'm not
so sure. That would be
like one poster saying
he was the 🐐, while
other posters laughingly
disagreed. ;)

Young is the type of coach you need now. Of course its very hard to identify that guy. Forbes and Pikiell are others. Guys who arent going to blow it out of the water in recruiting, arent sexy names, but can just flat out coach.

Pretty sure I identified all 3 of these as elite coaches. It ain’t that hard if you know what to look for

Pikiell - yes. Forbes after the fact. Dont remember you being high on Young. Who do you like this March besides Odom? No one jumps out at me.
Actually I agree with both
you and Bballinsider. Of
course I started this thread
talking about a number of
things, Pitino included. The
pressing, overplay on D,
playing the passing lanes
etc was like a graduate class
level. The other team was
hardly able to inbound the
ball, the pg (who was good)
was harried all game long.
When Iona doubled, they
rotated. They beat the
hedge by getting back
into the lane. This stuff
happens only through
great coaching. They did
not have significantly
better talent. However
in the MAAC, they are
very talented. I'm already
on record predicting the
usual Pitino performance.
Personal baggage?...Yeah
Yeah, I know, I know, It
really doesn't matter if
everyone soon forgets.
Add him to your list.
