I thought Pitt looked much
better tonight, despite 25
TO's. When your two lead
guards commit ten of them
it's not a good sign.
Emy Hayfford played as
good as I've seen despite
6 TO's. She did some things
I've not seen before. She
took the ball to the hole,
and when it wasn't there,
dribbled back out and set
it up. For the most part
she was in control. She's
definitely improving.

I've been very critical of
the coaching. I saw a
different team tonight.
They ran when it was there,
and settled and worked
for a good shot in their
half court set.

BC has more talent, is also
experienced and well
coached. Everett didn't
make the trip. Surprisingly
they played better without
her. Is there an issue with
her?

Didn’t see the game, but Hayford is maddening. She makes a good play then a bad play, and the cycle repeats. She must be good in practice to play so much…

Seems to me that Rita is making progress in making those close-in shots.

Surprised to see Pitt get out-rebounded so badly. Whatever the coaches are doing, it’s sure not helping with the turnovers…

Seems like we need an experienced offensive assistant coach…

Go Pitt.

That all may be true,
but if they played all
season as they did in
this game there would
be more wins.

No one has been more
critical than I've been on
sloppy, outta control,
clueless, basketball than
I've been. I saw a major
degree of improvement
in these areas last night.
I'm hoping it was good
coaching. Hell, we even
started off up 12 to 0.
Maybe there's some hope
for this group after all.
We'll see.

That's really the story of the whole team though. Pitt is good enough that over the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes of the game (all times approximate) they outscored BC 53-41. That's not just one good run or a good short stretch of basketball. That's most of the game. And yet they are bad enough that over that middle 10 minutes BC outscores them 28-4. They turned a 9 point lead into a 15 point deficit in 10 minutes!

And that was against a mediocre team like BC. It would be different, maybe understandable, if someone like NC State, a team good enough to win a national championship, clobbered you around for a 10 minute stretch like that. But this was BC, and BC isn't really any good.

The whole thing is maddening!

BC isn't elite in the ACC
that's for sure, but watching
the game they clearly had
the better team and the
two best players on the
floor. It was kinda like the
the Syracuse game with
Hyman and Styles, who
ended up dominating us.
BC had two who also ended
up dominating us along with
a frosh who hit 3's.

This is unlike me sayng this,
but for the first time I saw
some stretches of decent
basketball from our girls.
I also saw some of it in the
Syracuse game, and BC is
better than Syracuse. Of
course we had 25 TO's. BC's
press resulted in many of
those. The good news is
we played under control for
the most part. I'm starting to
see some improvement and
I hope it's due to some better
coaching.

Besides the ridiculous number of turnovers, two things stand out to me about the coaching - and this is from an amateur observer…

—Some of the players shoot the ball on too flat of a trajectory - which gives them little margin for error. It’s most obvious on foul shots. AB has improved, but her shot is flat + Johnson and a few others. The game against Syracuse was like a clinic on shooting - every foul shot taken by the Orange appeared to have the exact same good arc…

—Shots near the hoop. Rita has improved lately on these. But they seem to be shooting the ball as they are starting to jump - instead of going up strong and then shooting at the top or when starting down. That gives that extra second to really focus on the target and gives a better chance for a make…

Enough of my amateur coaching….

Go Pitt.
