I was in The Strip this morning, and while there's always been stores in The Strip that sell Pittsburgh sports apparel, I couldn't help but notice that over the past year there's been a proliferation of those shops.

I'm not gonna say that I was in each and every one of those stores, but I was in at least four of the larger ones. I think you all know where this is headed: the lack of Pitt merchandise that's available in an area that's crowded with shoppers on a Saturday morning.

I didn't expect to see any "Script Pitt" stuff, but there wasn't any "Block Pitt" either. Practically nothing at all. All of those stores, and practically zilch?

Am I the only one who thinks that it's peculiar to be unable to find sports merchandise in a large downtown Pittsburgh shopping area - located not far from Heinz Field - for the school called "The University of Pittsburgh"?

Who's responsible for the marketing of the merchandise?

Oh, and there's this gem (I swear that it's true): After striking-out several times in my efforts to find what I was looking for, finally I asked a middle-aged guy who was working in one of the stores whether they had any Pitt merchandise.

His response: "Oh, we don't sell any Pitt tee-shirts here. You have to go into Oakland to get those...on the corner of Forbes Avenue and Bigelow."
