Bernstein slays the Cult yet again...

These three paragraphs are Cult-crushing:

"Here was the man behind the Great Experiment, the idea that a powerful football program could be underpinned by upstanding morality, citizenship and scholarship. It was a grand and glorious vision for which Paterno was venerated until he died in 2012. And all along the way, as this ambition was being fulfilled, Paterno was consciously allowing a child-rapist to roam the facilities, using the football program to insulate and facilitate his serial crimes over decades.

The pathetic attempts by the Paterno family to rewrite history have to stop now, as does its disgusting, ongoing campaign to discredit abuse victims at every turn. This is the point at which the Paterno family must stand down and be silent, sad and ashamed.

Those 200 players, just a week removed from petitioning for the restoration of Paterno's statue, can be asked again why they hold that desire in their hearts. Outside central Pennsylvania, the rest of the world will keep wondering about the deep mental illness still apparently infecting so many alumni, fans and trustees. We remain amazed by its twisted thrall, its depth and breadth."

You can't crush the Cult.

He clearly nailed it. The Cult will NEVER accept the truth, but the rest of the world does. What a sick bunch!

If the Paterno family has any evidence that exonerates Joe, they probably ought to play that hand. Soon.

I suspect that if such evidence existed, it would've been presented years ago. Anything to protect that legacy, ya know?

But on second thought, if it wasn't for the current lingering controversy, Jaypa wouldn't have a job.

You know, you can make an argument that JoePa was a WORSE monster than Jerry Sandusky. Look, I am not minimizing Sandusky's deeds, but the dude was sick. Completely sick. Demented. Gone. Insane.

JoePa was the leader. The "saint". The moral compass. And he just let it go on and on, despite all of this happening over so many years. What is worse, is the iceberg phenomena. If this is the stuff we know, what do we not know? How many coaches or players have seen or heard anything? How many times has Paterno been informed? Or authorities?

And they just let it go and let it go until Jerry did it OUTSIDE the PSU jurisdiction. It was only then that people acted on it. And still even to the week before, Joe's 409th attempt to defraud us all, Sandusky was paraded as an honored guest by Spanier.

Holy Mutha F**K (pardon my insensitive language). HOLY F**K! What was wrong with these people? What was wrong with Paterno? I figured towards the end winning and legacy meant more to him and consumed him and he just was not going to let anything stand in the way. But 20 years prior? He just didn't give a damn about anyone and anything else except his football program.

Which makes sense. Because his players, a large portion of alumni and population up there are more concerned about the football program and Joe than anything else.

The jig is up. Sandusky was a monster, but no different than the enabler of enablers. I always thought Joe effed up in 1998, and caused him to back off of the 2002 incident because of prior instance and after Jerry left Joe just put him out of his mind. But he knew stuff back in 1976. Holy crap, 1976! We were national champs in 1976! That is how long ago that was. Dan Marino was a Freshman in 1976, in High School! Alot of yinz weren't even born then.

How many times could they have stopped him? How come not one Assistant coach physically confronted Sandusky? I so wish someone would talk, but it does none of them any good to talk. I so wish someone would have the courage aside from Mike McQueary. But everyone has seen what it has gotten McQueary.

How many times did Joe fail? How many times could he have "done more"? Why? He has a football season to prepare for. At one time, Jerry was of great use to Joe. It now seems obvious as Bradley and other coaches developed, Sandusky became not as useful and easy to dispose. Here's another thought. Anyone else think when Joe "encouraged" Jerry to choose between the Second Mile and Penn State, he really told him that if he is going to have the same appetite for little boys, that he should go full bore into Second Mile and leave his post at PSU?? I am starting to think this is how it really went down.

Jerry was a monster who preyed on disadvantage boys. But JoePa was the Grand Ruler who basically decided to draw the line, to tell him to choose between little boys or PSU football. And not put into actions to prevent this. This could be one of the most selfish acts a human being has done.

F. Paterno.

This entire situation reminds me of fallen 1980s televangelists... Same fake BS...combined with storyline from the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy...anyone who read all three books realizes the scope of the crimes tentacles reach higher and higher...crashing hard in the end...this thing deserves outsider investigation...reporting...digging...the Feds? National journalists? I don't know ...but NO MORE goddamn connected provincial bootlickers...

Their lawyer and Lubrano all claim they will release that evidence soon...for like three years now.
