I was wondering the same thing. Is this true? I know they sometimes have different covers for different regions, but central PA?
LOL! Not only do they make the cover for beating a 1aa team but the headline is our slogan!
I get your gist, but App State isn't 1AA. They have become a very good 'mid-major' FBS program since their 'recent' jump up.
That said, they are probably on the cover because it was one of the more exciting games of opening weekend. Generally, week 1 was pretty lame when it came to the marquee matchups...
Someone at the magazine must be a big Penn State fan, because it doesn't make sense.
And the irony of it all, them being on the cover when one of the stories being promo-ed on the cover is "The Rivalries".
It's funny to me that they celebrate being "unrivaled" when in fact the teams they would like to have a conference "rivalry" with in the big 10 have basically said, meh!
Every time I read "unrivaled", it's automatically translated to, "The Big 10 never really wanted us, and we don't fit in."

But it is their recruiting slogan as they “lock the gate” when they secure another verbal. Their stadium actually has gates. Not sure why Pitt would use that slogan imo.
I thought it was also. But for some reason we’ve flipped to “lock the gates” this year. Maybe they came to an agreement to trade slogans this year???
