I'm trying to rack my old brains but can't come up with anyone better than Bartholomew.

I’ve been going to Pitt games since the Hart years and I’ve seen many under utilized players, but none like Bart.I'm trying to rack my old brains but can't come up with anyone better than Bartholomew.

Wilson is tough to say because there were so many great WR (including the best one ever) at his time at Pitt and only so many passes to go around to warrant a whole lot of throws to the TE… but he was a good one.Kris Wilson in the early 2000s and (unironically) Mike Shanahan are two guys who come to mind that haven’t mentioned yet. Also like the Ollison mention, but I agree that Gavin B appears to be the biggest one.
Kevan BarlowDorin Dickerson if you count all the time wasted NOT at TE
he did get 20-ish touches every time he was healthy enough to play. He was heavily used in the passing game and had a lot of receiving touches as well.Curtis Martin - The game he had against Texas was incredible. He should have been getting 20-25 touches every game he was able to play.
No he wasn’t. They used older guys ahead of him earlier in his career when he was better and then at the end Majors held him out figuring it would force his hand to return. It didn’t work.he did get 20-ish touches every time he was healthy enough to play. He was heavily used in the passing game and had a lot of receiving touches as well.
See I can’t say guys like him or Kris Wilson or Ollison etc because they did get fairly significant time and touches. They didn’t get the wheels totally run off of them but they got the ball often.Kevan Barlow
Dinkins was only a 3rd string QB his freshman year. He finished his last 2.5 years as a safety. He lost his starting job to Ramon Walker when he was a senior.thinking we should have done something with Dinkins in the late 90s other than 3rd string qb. obviously a good athlete..
Didnt the Decicco guy actually become a linebacker in the nfl?
this is probably it. However, you have to be able to put yourself in a position to be utilized if you want to produce. Much of his career he was his own worst enemy. His senior year, he should've finished every game with a minimum of 20-25 touches a game.Kevan Barlow
I mean this is the only answer. Anyone on this board back in the Wanny days has to chuckle at this one.Greg Cross not seeing action in the Sun Bowl (edit, I know you asked for starters, but this was too good to pass up)
hmmm, thanks Steel, i wasnt aware of this. I remember him being 3rd string QB but i dont remember 2 1/2 years of him at safety..Dinkins was only a 3rd string QB his freshman year. He finished his last 2.5 years as a safety. He lost his starting job to Ramon Walker when he was a senior.
I recall Dinkins making a pretty impressive interception in the end zone to save a loss against someone like Houston (?). I recall it salvaging a win that we eventually needed to go .500 in that magical 😆 1997 season. It was like an attempted throw away but he made this Fitz like catch to leap up and manage to drag his toes inbounds to snare it. At the time we were thinking “dang he’d be better as a receiver” because he was, well, a less than enthusiastic tackler. And of course he eventually played TE in the NFL.hmmm, thanks Steel, i wasnt aware of this. I remember him being 3rd string QB but i dont remember 2 1/2 years of him at safety..
So i stand corrected..

Easy.I'm trying to rack my old brains but can't come up with anyone better than Bartholomew.

Normally I’d not be able to agree, as Fitz got a lot of looks (per my criteria above)…but he was not a normal player, either.Easy.
Larry Fitzgerald. 1 guy, 2 guys, 3 guys…doesn’t matter. Larry couldn’t be defended. Whatever the number of his targets were his sophomore year, they should have been doubled.
Continental Tire Bowl-1st and goal from the one…he should have been targeted on every down. Of course he wasn’t even on the field then…but that’s also the point.
The issue seems to be that Duz favorite kind of tight end is a Tackle EligibleBart's misuse is criminal. He is not your typical in-line TE. He's much more effective as a flexed-out pass catcher, in a role similar to what Kyle Pitts had at Florida. They're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with him on offense. Letting him be good at what he's good at shouldn't be that hard!
Beat me too it. Pitt wasted a lot of great players during Majors 2Billy west getting benched for prioritizing engineering degree over mid week practice is a good one.
Had a huge season on 1996 and won big East offensive player of the year and backed up Dwayne schulters a year later.
