The lack of big development under Capel has been a glaring weakness

I get that he’s not recruited the most talented guys but it seems to me even with the guys they have they get almost no coaching on how to play near the hoop

When was the last time you saw a Pitt big go up strong for a dunk? Or better yet use a drop step, step through. Up and under or fade away Jumper G and Corhern have enough talent to do some or all of these things and make them more effective. But it takes focus in practice.

You would think they’d be spending some portion of practice or after practice catching the ball and going up strong with a man on their back. Jumping into the defender snd drawing fouls. Developing an array of moves to keep the defender off balance.

These guys get the ball and you can almost see them thinking rather than being aggressive. To do the later it takes hours and hours of practice. That way in a game it becomes instinctive

I suspect the lack of development has been one factor in his ability to attract bigs

On one hand the game doesn't include big man play much anymore. On the other hand I would take a guy like Gary Mcgee who would use his body properly to actually box out or grab a rebound in a heartbeat. Your premise is correct. Our bigs are non existent...they either are weaklings that get pushed around left and right (someone should count how many times the twins fall on the ground) or their hands are bricks and can't grab a pass or a rebound.

Our bigs are weak where it matters most. They just don't have their legs under them which forms a very weak base. One bump from an opposing big moves them wherever they want. Without a good base you can't go up strong, because your always getting knocked off balance. They are not just weak down low though, their upper bodies are weak and their hands are not strong. Capel strikes out repeatedly on bigger stronger kids. This team needs a Chevy Troutman or a Gary McGhee or better yet, one of each. We are starved completely where physicality is concerned.

Yeah good drinking game, every time Lowe or the twins fall on the ground, drink.

Lowe at least hits the floor driving to the rim. I respect that part of his game. The twins either trip over their own legs like giraffes or get man handled out of position and fall.
