My concern this season revolved around the lack of an inside presence to go along with Young but after watching this game my real concern going forward this season and next is the guard play. If Nix can play the inside game will be vastly improved next year ,with the continued improvement of Young , Artis ,Luther and hopefully Jeter and just maybe Diallo or a fith year guy Pitt will be solid under the basket. The wing with Durad and Cam Johnson , Artis and Jeter is also well maned ,but the guard play ouch.
James Robinson: if his outside shooting is improved I must be looking at a different guy. He's clanking open shots one after another. His lack of a shot would be fine if the off guard was deadly but!
Josh Newkirk : also cann't hit the open shot ,makes incredibility poor decisions ,his quickness doesn't translate into a defensive stopper ,hasn't improved a lick no way JD is turning the offense over to him,his moments of greatness are overshadowed but his blunders
Chris Jones : improved but not a starting 2 guard on a good team , defensive liability,he's not young he's a third year guy how much improvement is left?
Cam Wright : he's Cam Wright good mid range etc but he's gone
DWilson : can only hope he comes in here and is the player he's hyped up to be
I understand the difficulty in getting quality big men ,but guards shouldn' t be that hard to find every OOC team Pitt played had a guard who could've played a vital role here . I've trid to remain positive this season realizing this is just not a good mix of players and the focus needs to be on improvement ,but watching the backcourt today made me cringe and the answers are not on the bench or the floor. I'm not sure if either of the Johnson's are quick enough or handle the ball well enough to be a 2 but for Pitt to improve their guard play has to get better.
Ps every conference win this year is good win and Im not trying to be a Debbie Downer but I just couldn't look past the guard play today
