Micco is being promoted to the Senior Sunday Editor..... and is no longer managing the Sports Page.

The new Managing Sports Editor is Michael Sanserino. He's an Indiana graduate. Perhaps having a Hoosier in there instead of a Nitter will lead to a better, less Nitter-centric, Sports Page.

Probably not. Still won't read it. Don't like Werner or Zeis much
Werner impressed me last summer. Was very critical of both beat writers but he had some good coverage during summer camp. I'd rather listen to 2 unspayed cats fight than listen to zeise talk about anything.

Isn't Werner the beat writer?
yes he is. I remember being so critical of him going into the summer, basically saying how these beat writers for pitt don't do squat. Maybe it was me imagining it or the new staff added excitement but really came away impressed with Werner's coverage on the summer camp.

I think/thought Werner/zeise do a good job.

As for Micco, they promoted him despite doing a crap job, so that's all you need to know.
As for the new guy, I suspect he owns a psu/Indiana reversible jacket, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I loved Gorman and Loved Zeise. Both had excellent Pitt coverage, and did a great job in my opinion.

I think having someone from Indiana there it wont be any better. It is big 10 country and they all think the big 10 is the best thing in the world. Plus Mica go a promotion?? For reducing subscription rates?? He will still be there to 'mentor' this guy, and our coverage will still suck and I wont read it still

Lost a lot of respect during the bowl process with Zeis Pitt bashing and fan bashing. Not a good look for media and when the same fans that don't travel or support the team are the ones chearing on your kid.

Werner does the minimal required. Posts his AP ballot as a "quota filler" bc anyone who cared could look it up online, snaps a few vids from practice, and writes a couple spoon fed articles per week.

I really agree. Werner is non-existent on twitter, and as you said does the minimal required. Never a fan of someone with such little effort and energy. You need a beat writer that actually LOVES doing their job and is just putting out stuff daily. I read more from the pittsburghsprortsnow guy than I ever do from Werner. That just isnt right, Werner should have far more tools to work from and should be out performing those guys

The best thing about PSN is its PRO PITT and Mike V is POSITIVE. Something a beat writer like Werner should be. Since PSN, I haven't read the Trib or PG plus I get my recruiting news and plenty of it for free! At first I thought it was just a recruiting site, but then he started covering things like transfers, Chaney leaving etc. really the best site out there right now.

Getting info from this program isn't exactly easy. Pitt treats info like its NAtional security. Kicks media out after stretching drills, Pitt starves for media attention but when they get it, they treat local media like homeless people in a bread line. Tough to blame Werner for not getting blood from a rock.

Penn State has a large fanbase in the PG's circulatuion area so they still warrant coverage. However, what has always amazed me is how WVU gets home team treatment from all the local media sources. That facebook fan map showed they are not even one of the top 3 favorite teams of in any Allegheny Co. zip code. It was Pitt, PSU, OSU. Only when you got into Fayette, southern Washington Co., and Greene Co. did they appear.

If I'm a newspaper editor looking to save money, I wouldnt have a WVU beat reporter. Buy an AP story off some local writer for their games. That's about it. They dont need to fly a beat reporter to the Great Plains every other week.

The thing that grinds my gears is that the PG (and I believe the Trib as well) both hired PSU grads as their beat writers....and both are complete fan boys of the programs. Werner is a ND grad, which could be considered a quasi rivalry with Pitt. Its not shocking the difference between the "wording" and "selection of articles" picked by Snyder/Adamski for PSU versus what gets written about Pitt.

Yeah, it really has been that way for years. PSU stories are always upbeat and 'cultish' and the way Werner pounces on EVERY SINGLE negative undertone is just sickening. I frankly get so sick of it.
But a GOOD writer, will write for his audience regardless. I am pretty sure that Gorman was a PSU grad, yet when he covered Pitt he did a phenomenal job. He was basically a Pitt fanboy, and why is that? Cause he is a good writer! Doing his job to increase readership. And also guess what??? When you are positive and writing good stories... yeah... you get allowed into Pitt events, practices and the 'inner circle' because Pitt knows that will be good for business. If I am Narduzzi I dont let Werner near my practices. DiPaoloa isnt as bad at all, he is usually mid line and fair. However, I dont always want that either. I want to read a fan boy every once in a while. It never happens. Like I said before, I love traveling and reading other fans game day experiences... they will have maybe 4 pages dedicated to the game and line-ups, matches, stats, standings, injuries, analysis... we get nothing.

For a good laugh, check out Audrey's twitter page; definition of fan girl. A critical word about her alma mater has never been written by Audrey.

Valid point. But if being a local team means being in the area or close to, WVU is local and Penn State is not. WVU is a mere 60 some miles away from Pgh. PSU is much further away. Sadly, because their name is "The Pennsylvania State University" they will get coverage everywhere in PA and are popular in almost every area.

I don't mind Werner. This guy they promoted is still in his 20's, so it'll be interesting to see how and where this all goes. Wouldn't really mind if either paper went under, particularly the Trib now that it's taken on a quasi-tabloid profile that's looking to stir up crap and attention instead of reporting news.

In general I feel like the media in this town gets judged on whether they're willing to say nice things or mean things about people in the name of pandering to a particular subset of fans, instead of whether they're simply accurate, factual, and informative to everyone in their region.

Zeise drives me crazy, personally. Seems to struggle with getting facts straight.
