Pitt defensive backs coach Renaldo Hill was in the Detroit area today checking in at the loaded Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech high school, one of the most talented programs in the country. Hill spoke with a number of prospects and I'll have information on them in our "Pitt coaches on the road" thread very shortly, but there's one key prospect he was there to see.
Hill will make an in-home visit tonight with Rivals250 defensive back Kalon Gervin, the country's 14th-ranked cornerback and the number one prospect in the state of Michigan, as confirmed by Gervin. Pitt has hosted Gervin on campus in the past and has recruited him for years.
The timing on this is really interesting. Gervin is set to announce a decision on December 2nd and is fresh off of an official visit to Oregon. He told Josh Helmholdt that he was focusing on Oregon and Michigan State heading into his decision, but Pitt may try to mix that up and maybe work to get him to push back a decision and visit campus again if they can.
Gervin will also host Michigan State assistant Harlon Barnett and head coach Mark Dantonio for an in-home visit tonight. The Oregon coaches, led by Willie Taggart, will have their in-home visit tomorrow evening.
