From his blog this morning:

I remind all those down and defeated by yesterday’s results that Pitt was 5-3 in its ACC division last year, which was won by a team with a 6-2 record. That team was Virginia Tech — which beat Pitt by three points. In the ACC title game, Virginia Tech lost to Clemson, a team that Pitt beat.

The chances of Pitt winning a national championship are next to zero. Its chances of winning the ACC title, slightly better. Its chances of winning its ACC division are weak. It chances of being a competitive team within the ACC, reasonably good.

What was just described has been Pitt’s role for some 35 years. Not much has changed, folks. If you’re looking for gridiron glory with the Panthers, you’ve come to the wrong place.

Comes down to, are championships important (as they are to most fans, especially in Pittsburgh) or just fielding a program to be able to check a box in some college catalog, whether it wins anything or not? Some think the latter is just fine.

Bob Smizik? The same can be said for him.

That is why people are attacking him, and I am no fan of him at all.

Attacking him?
I think I canceled my PG subscrition 17 years ago because of his garbage attacks on Pitt.
Oh woe is me - Pitt will never win another National Championship.
Bob "Dung beetle" Smizik must have dusted off his magic eight ball for that one.
Guess we'll just have to be happy with Pitt occasionally winning big games like Ped State, Clemson, or ruining West Virginia's hopes.
Did anyone read Dung Beetles blog after Pitt won those games?

The game this week was an embarrassment - wasn't the first - won't be the last
Big deal - its part of the game.
Brush yourself off and get up to fight another day.
Ask Donald, Fitzgerald, McCoy and all the other great RECENT Pitt players how "relevant" the program has been the last 35 years.

I didn't and won't read his dumb blog.
Read it allbefore.
All I can say I enjoyed last year a lot and other years.
No Pitt didn't win the national championship but I will continue to enjoy the games. (How bout the wins at Syracuse -fake punt and the 61 yard field goal at Georgia Tech).
Make no apologies for being a Pitt fan.

HEY DUNGBEETLE SMIZIK - JOE KNEW ( and so did everyone else )

Do you find is sad, the same damn article today, could be wrote about Pitt for some years now, and nothing is addressed by the school. Same issues , same crap, same old Pitt

All of them great players that were special to watch along with others. All of them never won an outrught conference championship either. Is that too much to ask for 1 conference championship.

I honestly didn't know smizik was still alive. The fact that he is still working is even more shocking to me.
