Is it wrong that I like Boeheim? I'm sorry but I actually like these coaches I'm supposed to hate. Pitino, Will Wade, Sean Miller, Pearl, Huggins, etc. For different reasons. I like different things about them:
Pitino - arguably the best X and O coach and I dont care that he cheated
Wade - just says F U, Im cheating and aint nothing you can do about it (got a wrist slap and will be back next year)
Miller - former Pitt great
Huggins - seems like an awesome dude, love how direct he is
Pearl - older version of Wade
Boeheim - I have a soft spot for him given how critical he has been of the ACC and ACCT
I guess the only coach I don't like is Nate Oats and that's just recent because he is playing someone who brought a gun to a murder.

I don't always hate the coaches we're "supposed" to hate. Like Pitino would be an example of that. And I was more indifferent on Calhoun than most. Lot of examples in football, too.
But Boeheim I can't stand.

Funny, I don't remember Boeheim on that Syracuse team. Was he a bench warmer? Student Manager? Jock strap sorter?

I find Huggins as a person is probably a lot more likable than the other coaches you noted there.
As I remember him, he was a support type player. Didn’t score much, lot of work that went unnoticed. Do you remember Ken Waggoner who played for us with Knight and Marin in the early 70’s? Kind of a cleanup player to sorta speak.
The only people who hated Huggins was B.B. Flenory and his old man. Now Cattlet was a different story.
See, this is where Boeheim and others like Saban and Coach K became insufferable. All castigated other programs for doing exactly what they always have done. Paterno of course was the King of this Douchebaggery. In Bowheim case, every player worth half a dam on that court in Orange was there due to some manner of payola. He’s a decrepit old washed up fossil coaching a crap school in the middle of the Arctic. No hot prep star is going there any longer on the merit of Boeheim. In short, he bought his team, and spent lavishly, because his players were those in high demand.
Yet he’s publicly (and he knew full well it was on the record…so he’s lying sack of sh1t s as well as being a hypocrite), railing against another program that did better than his, out of bitterness and jealousy.
Seriously, no doubt Pitt arranged NIL and/or other such remuneration for sure to get these guys, as we were in desperate straits for players, no doubt we all painfully recall. But they were spare parts, wrested from the likes of Colgate and Marquette, not exactly budding lottery picks like several of the guys Boeheim purchased. He should frankly be ashamed he’s underachieved with these guys…better coaches would have had them highly ranked. And he should have given credit to Capel for turning this ragtag crew into winners. But these old hypocrites simply don’t have the decency in them to tell the truth.

All those other coaches are fine but being a Pitt fan you should have something against him and his whole family.
Absolutely remember Waggoner. I was at Pitt from '70 to '74.
My comments about Boeheim (as a player) were meant to be snarky and sarcastic.
Ok, I actually didnt like Calhoun. Cant say I hated him but he seemed like a jerk. Didnt like John Thompson either.
Football is different in that I think most football coaches are insufferable pricks. I think that's just the nature of being that football alpha male jock type dude. But Franklin, Saban, Meyer, Kiffin, Fuentes, both Kelly's, Riley, etc, those dudes seem like insufferable pricks. About the only coach I like besides Narduzzi is Dabo. Mack Brown seems like a nice grandpa so Im ok with him. I liked Beamer I guess, seemed like a good guy.
I like Brown a lot. Like Clawson a lot. Like Babers a lot. Etc. I don't mind some of the pricks, like the dude in Alabama. The ones that irk me are the whiners like Coach K and Dabo. They act like altruistic saints when everything goes their way, but they turn into sore loser puss-faced crybabies when it isn't.
Agreed. I really like Dave Clawson. He, Babers, Brown seem like really good people. But for some reason, I don't think this is the case with most football coaches.
I am too young to remember them in college, but clearly remember Bing in the NBA.
Boeheim was the other guard or small forward on those Syracuse teams. I've heard stories.
