I'm a card-carrying member of the Tyler Boyd fan club. However, this interview is revealing. All of Boyd's quotes are true, but he certainly fits the NFL-receiver mold. (Lots of confidence and may be focusing on himself a bit more than your typical player.) I'm not saying it is bad thing - just an observation.

A few excerpts:

"Defenses are focusing most of their attention on Boyd with running back James Conner, the reigning ACC player of the year, out for the season. Boyd called it a “huge loss for me” because of all the extra attention defenses are now giving him"

"“Last year guys knew what I was capable of doing but weren’t able to bracket me because how dominant our running game was,” Boyd said. “I had a lot of opportunities to go one on one, and nine times out of 10 I’m going to win that.”"

"I’ve always lined up anywhere on the field and dominated a play"

Again... I love the confidence, and I know it is not fair to compare Boyd to a player like Fitzgerald, but TB sometimes comes off as a little selfish.

he is basically our whole offense. We all knew he was most of the passing game but now he is taking over some of the running game too. Let's face it, if we had some capable running backs, we aren't running jet sweeps and handoffs to our top WR.. If Conner is healthy, you don't see 8 - 10 bubble screens to him..

It is kind of funny that you expect a guy that can kick D1 players asses 9 time out of ten to have the personality of Rudy Ruettiger, I'd be baffled if he wasn't a little arrogant.

Every other wideout is probably about as insecure as a teenage girl reading an issue of Seventeen.

So did I.

I like Tyler. I really do. But if you read these quotes and come away with some sort of warm feeling about the guy, you're a pretty big homer.

Then again, I didn't really hear the way the question was posed to TB. It could have been something specific like "For you personally, how did the loss of Conner affect you?". I guess we will never know. Maybe I'm overreacting.

Yeah the kid actually is being very unselfish. Anytime you catch 10 ball for 100 yds and folks consider it a mediocre day is saying something. He catches over 40% of all the passes on the team and his yardage is off almost 30%. If he was selfish he would say if I had some better players around me I would be up for the heisman. Also isn't it true he stuck with a mediocre Pitt team when he could have taken him and his arrogance elsewhere? Not saying he is a choir boy but far from a drama queen.

Attitude = Julius Dawkins
Talent = Tyler Boyd

Not sure what Boyd did wrong here. Yes he's a big time NFL talent. Yes he's suffering a little with Conner hurt. He even mentioned that he came out of the game at the end last Thursday because he was hurting a bit and didn't want to make it worse (i.e. save himself for the draft).

So what? You can't pride yourself on being and NFL pipeline and then complain that a guy is looking out for himself a little bit. All these kids do it now. There's no loyalty. Your starting QB is a transfer. They're all looking out for themselves and rightly so.

So you are saying that because he didn't say "I would win the Heisman but my team isn't good enough" you don't sense any drama. OK.

The truth is He should already be a millionaire, the rules the corporations place on these kids that keep them from receiving their market value. Ie having to stay 3 yrs. he is already better than over 50% of the WR in the nfl. Should be 2 years into an nfl contract at this point. I didnt say it wasn't any ego, My point is that he could have said many things that could have been seen as selfish if he had been truthful. Many issues in sports today but don't see TB as one at this point. That and he is only 21 yrs old. Tough job for anyone to have mics in your face and try and please everyone without offending some.

Well, if college football becomes like basketball, I'll quit watching. You can't build a team with a one and done formula.

Maybe but he's not exactly tearing it up stats wise. Pitt/Chaney is misusing him badly. Boyd's main strength is route running and difficult catches. All the 5 yard underneath routes are pretty silly, IMO. Get literally any other receiver for those and use Boyd downfield. Unless Chaney feels the other wideouts are faster on fade routes, and like using Boyd more on the short passing game.

What the heck are you talking about?

Peterman has rarely, if ever, forced a ball deep downfield to boyd. I don't know if that is because Peterman is concerned with turnovers or if Cheney does not want to take that chance. It is probably a mix of both.

I don't. Guy is contributing to the team in four phases and he's selfish/dramatic? Please.

He's not asserting the team isn't good enough, he's lamenting the presence of a key piece. Very different stances.

I kind of disagree. Yes, he's leading P5 in receptions but if you look at other P5 WR's with over 50 catches, his stats are in line, especially for a ball control type offense.

Boyd has by far the lowest yards per catch and yards per game of all the NCAA reception leaders. Pitt Chaney is not doing Boyd any favors throwing him ten 2 yard passes a game. Especially when they dont seem to be using him downfield.

I suppose attempting to interpret these small interview clips is senseless. I just didn't get the same out of these statements. Who knows.

I think T. Boyd can come across sometimes as much more focused on himself than the team - but I suspect that that attitude may come from his background of coming from a small town and needing to earn respect and prove himself. He is cocky, but he backs it up.

What balanced it for me was seeing T. Boyd's reaction when Pitt won the GT game. In that case, he genuinely seemed elated for the team.

Go Pitt.

Please read the full context of the "lining up anywhere and always dominating" quote in the article.

He is referring to dominating multiple positions in LITTLE LEAGUE and high school and how it prepared him for taking on multiple roles at the college level. The way it's cut and pasted in the original post is very misleading.

It's also not a stretch to see that the Connor quote was as much praise for Connor as anything else.

Call me a 'homer' if you want, but I don't see my interpretation within the FULL context of the article as being off-base.

While I can not argue about how one feels about what he said, I will say that his actions seem to me to be aligned with the type of guy that will do anything for the team to win. He is running back kick-offs, punts, running from behind center, and served a game suspension and was excited when his chance came.all the while knowing he has a big payday coming if he can get out of these next 5 games. He catches all those short passes going no where etc. I just don't see selfishness at this point especially considering today's average kids participating in sports.

I think they're trying to effect Boyds draft status by limiting the type of throws he's getting. 82 yards a game and 9.2 yards per catch isnt a 1st round draft pick. I think Narduzzi realizes this.

there are two previous years of tape on Boyd where he is averaging plenty of yards per catch. If anything this just adds to his value by showing his versatility as a receiver. He has excelled with 3 different QB and as many coaches.. His body of work speaks for itself. He is still a 1st or early second round pick. Nothing has changed. There is not receiver in the nation who is doing what he is with the offense and lack of talent both throwing the ball and other threats .

Nope.... I didn't read anything at all into it... He complimented Conner.... And made an obvious point as to the hit the offense took... That was it.

Yeah but 82 yards per game?? Its clear what Narduzzi is doing here..

No. That'd be Todd Graham...but not Duzz.

I hope you aren't serious with this. No way would Pitt hurt their own chances to damage a kid's draft status. If anything, they want him to get drafted not only in the first, but as high as possible because that reflects well on the school. Given his lack of dominance without another top weapon and tendency to get banged up, I see him as a 2nd rounder or late first rounder at best.

Im sure Pitt wants Boyd drafted high...just not this year.. You cant seriously watch the games and wonder why they aren't using Boyd, except on short scrub passes that any WR could probably handle. 9.2 yards per catch says they aren't throwing to him downfield.

They aren't throwing to him downfield because it is never wise to make longer throws into double coverage - you're asking for a pick - and T. Boyd is always doubled.

Go Pitt.

I'm comparing P5 players because TB is a P5 player. I don't see the point of looking at what someone is doing at Grand Valley State who is running routes against a CB with blazing 4.6 speed.

he has 15 minutes of high light reel catches, he has taken alot of sure interceptions away from defensive backs he will be a pro bowl caliber reciever in right offense.
