Bracket updates 3/3

I feel this is pretty accurate and they should be right in between the first four out and last four in where they are right about now in this bracket posted. Win these last two games at home this week and get some help to get that double bye and I think Pitt is in.

Agreed. They need to cover and play efficiently in the last two to avoid a q3 deathblow and continue to raise their net. It will be harder to raise it against q3, but double digit wins should be the expectation if they are a tourney team. They are favored by 7-8 in each per Torvik.

Relevant games today
UConn vs. Seton Hall
Canisius vs. Rider
Michigan @ Ohio State
UAB @ Memphis
Bradley @ Drake
Stanford @ Colorado
Rutgers @nebraska

Ideally we want wins from the teams on the left.

ESPN has Pitt 84.5% chance to win vs FSU and 77.9% chance to win vs NCST.

Palm for CBS now has Pitt at the top of his list as the next four out. He has Seton Hall, Iowa, Villanova and Wake Forest as his first four out which I feel you could make a case that Pitt could be seeded ahead of all of those teams right now.

Damn that still seem like a big mountain to climb to get us into the field. Palm is 1 of the guys who usually has Pitt in when others like Lunardi do not.

Good that SHU lost, but UCONN (and it pains me like heck to say it) is a juggernaut. Need some other results too: Nebraska and Colorado to lose. O$U too.

Well one of those team ahead of us has already lost today. By 30 points.
Yep and a few bubble teams have some toughremaining games left:
Nova: Seton Hall and Creighton
KSU has Kansas and Iowa State
Iowa has Illinois
Seton Hall: Nova
Colorado and Oregon have a head to head
Utah and Oregon have a head to head
Memphis and FAU have a head to head
Texas A&M plays both MissSt and Ole Miss
New Mexico will be at Utah State
Nevada and Boise State have a head to head

St. John’s is sort of like Pitt and has DePaul and Georgetown left

Yes, but Pitt doesn’t have any ranked teams or road games.

And I think the one thing that we can all agree on, Georgetown and DePaul may not be ranked, but they both certainly are rank!

I knew DePaul was awful, but I didn't realize they were 3-26 awful. They are going to match Missouri by going 0 for the conference season.

But they beat Louisville. You want to know how your conference's NET rankings get screwed up, have one of your teams lose to a historically awful DePaul team.

The good news with the 3 Big East teams were vying with is that two of them are going to end up on UConn’s side of the bracket in the Big East tournament so I don’t see really any chance that they have an extended stay.

We need to see Nova lose to Seton Hall this week, I think. Nova’s resume feels like one we can beat as long as they don’t pull off anything notable the rest of the way. How the committee views the Big East vs. our league is going to be interesting

Win next 2 and let the chips fall where they may... I still think the human element, under ranking of the ACC, road wins, resume put Pitt in with 2 wins regardless of what happens in DC.
Agree that it's more likely than not. Plus you have two freshman guards playing their best ball now, one of which will most likely be in the NBA next year, and a guy who can drain 3's from anywhere. Human element wise they're a fun team for March purposes.

I don't think he'll be in the NBA next year. There's a better chance he bolts for the NIL from a Kansas, Kentucky or other "elite". I just want us to keep Lowe next year and if we can keep Bub, so much the better.

I agree I think win these two at home this week with FSU and NC State, maybe win one of the two games by double digits to pad the resume a little bit, and hopefully get the double bye in the ACC Tournament as well and I think they are in the NCAA Tournament somewhere between a 10-12 seed which is a good place to be.

The Memphis game didn't help. I don't know if I've ever seen a team that was up by 23 dissolve so quickly. I mean, they were up 18 toward the end of the half. Memphis hit a long 3 to cut it to 15 at halftime... and then Memphis was winning less than four minutes into the second half, lol. Lead dissipated faster than the flavor in a stick of Juicy Fruit.

I was hoping for UAB to beat Memphis and then Memphis to beat Florida Atlantic.

Agreed. I would be shocked if Memphis makes it in though.
Net of 71. They do have a decent 7-5 road record. 3-2 Q1 and 3-3 Q2, but 11-2 Q3 and 5-1 Q4. They did win at Mizz, but likely have too low a NET and too many bad losses.

I don't think Memphis will make it (although I guess it's at least theoretically possible), but I was thinking more in terms of them knocking Florida Atlantic out. I wanted their resume to be as tarnished as possible heading into that matchup.

Wouldn't be shocked to see them win their conference tourney. They are definitely good enough to do it. They play like they are disinterested at times.

Never know what you're going to get with Memphis.

Have you seen some of the guys on NBA benches? The Cavs are 2nd in the East and Bub is already better than several of their players. Guys who were just average college players and that you never heard of:

- Craig Wright, Jr, Wichita
- Max Strus, DePaul
- Dean Wade, KSt
- Georges Niang, Iowa State

There is straight-up trash on NBA benches. There is a 100% that Bub makes a roster, not a 2 way, but an actual roster. Not sure where he'd get drafted, late 1st or early 2nd but he'll make a roster

I’m pretty sure Strus started in the NBA Finals last year for the Heat.

The NBA must be hurting for players if they are taking D2 dudes who transferred to DePaul to have an average D1 career. If you let me have Strus for Hinson or Bub the rest of the season, I say no.

Right now I think there’s 4 BE teams we’ll be vying with to get a spot along with our ACC friends UVA and WF plus a number of other teams. We need a lot to happen aside from just winning our last 2 plus maybe 1 ACC tourney game because winning our last 2 won’t gain us anything by itself, it will have to come from others we’re competing with losing.

As far as those BE teams were vying with, you sure would think at least 2 of them go by the wayside as the dust settles on the remaining regular season and conference tourney games. But teams like Nova, losing to a UCONN isn’t going to drop them much. We gave posters herein saying Pitt is looking good because we can likely get to a 37 NET and a team has never been left out with that high of a NET. Nova’s NET is 26 right now so they’d really have to tank for them to drop below 37.

Nova is in at 26. Same with Wake. NET is too good. You cant count as someone else's Q1 win and also not be good enough to make the NCAAT.

Niang averaged 16 for his career and 21/6 in his last year on 39 percent 3 point shooting and was 37.5 percent for his career. They went to the S16 his senior year, S16 his sophomore year and round of 32 his freshmen year. He won 5 NCAA games against 4 losses at freaking Iowa State. 2 time all American, big 12 tourney MVP. I'm not sure what world you live in, but that is not an "average college player" and pretty sure everyone has heard of him.

Not only that, but he's several inches taller than Carrington and shot the ball better in college than Carrington has so far.

And before someone points out that Niang was a four year college player so he had a chance to get better, he made 57% of his twos and 39% of his threes as a freshman, as opposed to Carrington's 50% and 31%.

Shocking that an NBA team might like a taller guy who can shoot the ball on their bench. Or, well, shocking to SMF, apparently.

I would also point out that there is no such player as
- Craig Wright, Jr, Wichita

however the Cavs do have a Craig Porter who played at Wichita State on their roster.

Porter, Wright Jr, to-may-to, to-mah-to

Games of interest tonight:

Duke @NCState - maybe an NCST win gets them back in top 75

Texas @Baylor - maybe a big Baylor win drops Texas (27) out of top 30 Net and moves Wake back in

FGCU and Jax both start the ASun tournament. This is the last chance to try and bump Pitts OOC schedule. FGCU is a slight favorite vs. Bellarmine and Jax is a slight dog vs Kennesaw.

I lumped Niang in there but the other dudes? Niang was a good college player but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that he would have made the NBA. He was a fat below the rim post guy who could step out and make a 3. He's still fat as hell but doesnt play in the post. There's simply no way he's a better NBA player than Blake Hinson, let alone Bub.

True. Besides being taller, more accolades, more winning, not being 24 and having much better stats he has nothing on Hinson?

Welp that got ugly quick. NCST with a stinker. fGCu upset. Jax won in an upset, but Texas blowing out @Baylor early.
