He's a Top 100 4 star player right now. I said that many, many months ago. Big jump in the rankings will come next summer when more eyes are focused on him. Athletic 3 point shooter as a 2 guard with significant upside. This was expected as long as we kept winning with Nelly having a good year. This is a very good get, dont let the current ranking now confuse anyone.


His teammate 5 star Meleek Thomas has been camping at the Oakland Zoo for quite some time since the start of the season and has been to about 4 or so Pitt games, maybe more. He has visited Pitt more than anyone, although has visited Indiana twice now. We are likely leading here for him for the time being, too. Thomas is a borderline Top 5 recruit nationally in 2025 and is a lethal scorer.


One of the other guys I want in 2024 is Jalil Bethea who visited against UNC. He's one of the top 3 point shooters in the class although competition is stiff. I also want his friend / teammate Thomas Sorber who visited unofficially. Sorber continues to be massively underrated. Blue Bloods may be coming for him, however, and getting him is a huge battle. I want to get him back here for an OV.

The Imani team was sitting courtside at the UNC game but I didn't see the big guy. They were on the court after the game. I'm juat making that up because I'm a PSU and WVU fan who doesn't go to games

Its especially important with who we have at point guard and roster building.

Jaland Lowe is pretty Elite in the PnR at the high school level. And when you give him shooters to create space like what happened in the latter part of the EYBL and Peach Jam when his team made the prestigious Final 4; he absolutely can tear high end defenses and quality defensive players apart with good spacing.

The same can be said with Dior. You give him space, he can tear up a defense quickly.


Carrington, Barnes, Cummings, all 3 point shooters. Now the staff needs to finish the job and get Bethea in 2024 as a 3 point specialist.

Then the focus switches to an Elite big man.

So much easier to demolish something than it is to build it. Saw it with the destruction of FB starting in the early ‘80’s. Then the final demo after Gottrfied left. Sad. Has taken decades just to get a foundation and framework up.

Same with hoops. Hard to recruit to a pile of rubble that was left post SB/KS.

This year can be a start towards resurrecting things some. IF they can keep it going. The Portal (and NIL) have created a vastly different landscape. Can be your friend. Or your enemy. Have to be astute. Get the right guys; guys who want to WIN more than achieve just personal acclaim. Same with the HS recruits a program seeks to land.

Cummings is averaging 25.5 points a game, shooting 55% from the field, 82% from the free throw line and 38% from 3-point range. As a junior. He is between 6'3-6'4.

Spent time with Team Durant. Had some big performances and some quiet performances, but most players are inconsistent at that stage. Was also teammates with Royce Parham. He also missed time over the summer by not playing. I expect him to make a much bigger name for himself this summer.


This game is recent as it was just played.

You can see Pitt commit Brandin Cummin, #3,, Meleek Thomas #5, and Pitt target Jalil Bethea #1 all here going right at each other.

 
What a difference 12 months makes. At this point last year we were 6-9, we all wanted Capel gone. We were 1-3 in the conference. Now I feel like I am watching the Pitt of 10 years ago, just waiting on the NCAA seeding. This team is tough and experienced and play so hard for each other. They never believe they are out of a game and believe they can beat anyone. And so do I.

Meleek will be in the lottery and won’t go to college imo. Best player in my lifetime in Western PA in my lifetime and not close.

Beebah Is a stud and a welcome addition.

I worked out a kid same height every day from junior year on. Meleek is more talented, smoother game, higher IQ a year younger then when we started. That kid was a 1 and done freshmen if the year in P5 currently averaging 20 a game and 20 mill a year. Just can’t see Meleek playing college

Why would he do a year in the G-league instead of making 7 figures in college if he's that good?

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I'd have to think that guys like Billy Knight, Maurice Lucas, Kenny Durrett and Pete Maravich (if he qualifies as being Western PA) would be at least somewhat close to this kid. But maybe they didn't play in your lifetime.

Not trying to give you a hard time, I just think it's funny when you enter SMF hyperbole territory.

Danny Fortson or Brandon Fuss Cheatem were the best high school players I’ve seen in my lifetime.

None of those guys you mentioned even played even in the NBA while I was alive.

This kid is on the trajectory to be a lotto pick in 2 years. He’s terrific

The Cummings family believes in Capel through first hand experiences, obviously as a man, a teacher, and a coach. Capel isn’t what you guys have been saying about him for 3 years.

Terrelle Pryor was the best player around here in decades. Well, him and Blair. Pryor was unreal

I saw Pryor in the PA State Champ Bball game vs Strawberry Mansion. He was very good but I didn’t think he was super dominant. Athletically, he was awesome but I felt like he knew felt he knew his meal ticket was football.

I don't follow international players that much and Im not sure what the interest level would be or how good he is. I do expect the staff to be shooting high with the remaining ships we have in 2024.



Yes, that is Fede's brother to the other person asking. And he looks like a PF. And Ive seen him listed up to 6'10.
