It was only a couple of months ago where we were discussing whether "bread lines" were good or bad. I guess if you need food, they are pretty good.

For some nice cars, high end cell phones, expensive data packages, premium tv , and we'll take the welfare too.

    Today's welfare pigs.

Wait until these places close which is on the way.
Only 10% of 2nd Harvest food banks are open with more reported to close.
They'll be parking the cars and fighting for the food.
    Wait and see.

They'll want your stuff too soon.

We have plans for a neighbor watch beginning very soon. St Trooper in the neighborhood said law enforcement will be overwhelmed if shutdowns go for a long time.

    Already increased domestic violence, assaults,
etc due to people families locked up together in close quarters.

Who cares what kind of a car someone on public assistance drives? Are they supposed to all drive junkers or 15 year old beaters?

    Two comments:

    1) The OP is doing this because he is a Sanders supporter. What he doesn't get is this is NOT A GOOD THING. We didn't choose to do this as an optimum way of people getting food.

    2) People are ridiculous for free stuff. People just feel entitled to anything "free". These are not the winners of society.

    Yes or something reasonable.
I was never on welfare and never took an unemployment check but when things were tough but I drove something appropriate to help make ends meet.

A social worker friend of ours tells us the stuff these so called poor have.
A lot more than she has, top of the line cell phones and data packages, big screen tv's (60's), premium cable, sunday ticket, getting cash back on the welfare card and taking it to the casino.

The social worker we know called them poor on paper.
She turns a lot of them over to the investigative division, who visitsometimes surprise visit and find they all kinds of things to put in reports which hopefully scale down or eliminate benefits.

I don't think that was the point of welfare.

In 1960 the average Democrat would be too ashamed to take assistance. Times have changed.

It's true. Which is why the Dems keep getting votes and not enacting any meaningful changes.

We need to cover everyone in a single payer health system. We need a federal living wage. We need to improve and increase access to education benefits.

Then, reduce other benefits that people abuse. If a normal person is automatically covered with health coverage, and any job pays a living wage, then they don't need government support.

I sort of do... I'm working for the f'n free loaders. Wonder if they'll ever give back... spare time go pick up some trash.. cut your neighbors grass.

Maybe some of those full size pickups and SUV's are picking free stuff for their deprived neighbors..

Want to see how badly people need food?

Offer 1 week free groceries in exchange for 40 hours cleaning trash

You would never see a line like the one in the OP pic

    Or ya know
Recently laid off people because 70% of people don’t have savings of $1000 or less -
And with bills , rent , utilities , etc -
    That doesn’t last long

I feel bad they were laid off but instead of fueling a desire to never experience this hardship again and prioritize the value of saving, most will just complain about the system more. These people were broke before they were laid off.

    1. Save a $1k emergency fund
    2. Pay off all debt, a lot of nice cars shown that people don’t necessarily need to do day to day things when you are broke. Job or no job.
    3. Save 3-6 months of expenses.

As a contrarian to your post, who do you think rolls the economy? These people or me? I have a 5 year old car (one) and was going to buy a new truck last year and had the $$$ in hand but didn't because to get basically what I wanted would cost about 35K (not 50K like some new trucks). So I still have the 35K in hand.

They need to spend less, improve their skills and job, and work harder.
    Problem solved.
You see people without a pot or a window to throw it out and they're face timing on the highest end
I phone, sucking up data, or paying for an unlimited plan, costing them hundreds a month. That's just for starters.

People live beyond their means at all levels. Looking at the housing bubble crash of 2008. Poor people spend too much on a car or a TV, wealthier people spend too much on a house, second house, etc..

Everyone gets burned in the end because they are spread too thin.

Fiscal responsibility and saving money aren't a priority for most Americans, not just those at the bottom.

If we keep giving them free stuff it will never be a priority 50 yrs of free stuff failure proved that.

Rich individuals in the 2008 crash went bankrupt, they didn't get welfare, I know alot of them.

As for myself in 2008, I kept all investments, didn't sell one share of stock, had a ton of cash money saved for an emergency, and came out the other end of the 08 mess with more money than ever.

Its not hard, it's not rocket science, it just takes discipline!

And, unfortunately, discipline is what we do not possess as a society. I see it in the fiscal calamities of my grown children every day.

Probably because they where in a union and had good wages, etc.

How about you? If you had lost your job, had no income coming in and for whatever reason, ran out of money, would you refuse free food?

What if you can't? What about from this minute until you find the 2nd job? What if it takes 3 months? Do you not eat for 3 months? Personally, I'm not STUPID like you, I'd get the food I need today, any way I can.
