Break from eating out :(

I have an elderly parent in my care so I’m avoiding people as much as I possibly can.

But it’s to the point that even if I didn’t I’d still be laying low. Maybe not quite as low. But probably wouldn’t be doing normal.

Agreed - right thing to do. It’s most certainly a way to slow this shit down.

Cue the this is nothing crowd - I’ll take it.

I too am taking care of an elderly parent as all my brothers and sisters have moved away and am not going to take her grocery shopping for a few weeks. I am going to get her list, shop for her and take her the stuff. Better to be safe than ...well you know

Yes. I do know. Very old and just about every underlying condition. I wouldn’t be optimistic for a recovery.

We used to go out to dinner twice a week minimum. Now, we are ordering delivery those two nights. I don’t know how it is in Pittsburgh, but in LA there are tons of delivery options.

We have stopped going to movies at the theater. We also cancelled a trip to Vegas this weekend to see “Chicago” in concert. Three of the remaining members are former clients and we had free tickets and a free room at the Venetian where they are playing, but it wasn’t worth the risk. Especially since I’ve seen them at least 25 times over the years.

We now do our grocery shopping after 9 pm when the stores are less crowded and are very careful with fresh fruit and vegetables. Only touch them with the plastic bags they put around for you to put them in and only buy vegetables that get thoroughly cooked before eating. Sticking to fresh fruit in containers.

My wife and I are trying to do the same thing. We can't avoid shopping for food and essentials sometime, but we use social distancing and wash our hands constantly.

We're both "elderly" even if we don't feel like it. But we'd rather be healthy for a long, long time. We can kick this thing if we just use our common sense.

We did brunch at a crowded spot in DC last Saturday before things really blew up... hadn’t eaten out or even gotten take out since for either lunch or dinner since, but broke that last night at a restaurant out with family... probably shouldn’t have, but at least it wasn’t too crowded. Was able to get meals for at least the next week (with some frozen stuff and rice/pasta in case we do need to stay in beyond)

For the most part I’ve already tried to limit eating out in general to save money, cooking more and having leftovers, sandwiches/salads at home for lunch.

Ordering delivery doesn’t do you any good if one of the people in the chain of people handling your food has the virus.

I was thinking the same thing. I will prepare my own food.
We stocked up with lots of healthy proteins and frozen veggies. Mrs. NTOP is a terrific cook. Had to rearrange some stuff in our backup fridge....fortunately not much white wine!! Thinking about hijacking a Costco truck with toilet paper. $2 /roll....cash....looking for a partner??

Spent the past 24 hours camping in complete isolation on Laurel Ridge after eating some of the areas best wings at Dino's in Latrobe.

Everyone has to make their own personal decisions based on their age health and the age and health of their loved ones and other people they may come in contact with. If you or someone you love is in a high risk category you should be far more cautious than those who aren’t

for those that are healthy and younger going out and eating is probably Ok but again that is a personal choice

we don’t eat out much to begin with so social distancing is not an issue. I still will go to the gym until it closes down

It’s really not a personal choice when the public health officials are telling you to stay away from others as much as you can-it’s doing the right thing for the good of all, as no matter how young, healthy and low risk you are, if you’re our going about your usual business because you’re not worried about getting sick yourself, you are potentially putting other people’s lives at risk-people you’ll never meet or see. Gas pumps, stores, restaurants, restrooms, surfaces in all buildings or places, etc etc. So many people are looking at this as though “I’m healthy, my family is healthy, we’re not worried about getting sick”. Well it’s not about you, or even your loved ones and friends, it’s about everyone. Is it acceptable to some of you if some older and more vulnerable people die because of this thing? My mom is 77 and has COPD. She would be in the highest risk category. I lost my dad a couple years ago. I have one parent left, my kids have one grandparent, and We’d like to have her around for a while.

It’s also about the fact that we don’t have the hospital capacity to handle all of the people that are likely to become critically ill from this pandemic. Keeping people away from each other is the course that has to be followed to keep our system from being overwhelmed.

This thing is revealing a lot of ignorance and self-centeredness in this society.

I travel, so I eat out 3-4 days a week (that is 2-3 meals a day). So that is alot of eating out. So we are grounded right now, just doing computer work from home, short trips.

What sucks....is if you live very close to a CBD or large city, you still have alot of choices for food. But Pittsburgh suburbs, specifically the AK Valley is the worst. Eyetalian food, fast food, pizza or bar food. No real good Chinese, Sushi or other ethnic foods to order take out from, unless I drive a ways (which I am willing to do).

I hate going out to eat and cook most of my meals so this really isn't a problem. I can see how difficult it can be for some based on how they live. Allrecipes has a decent app. You can search by ingredient and limit the number of ingredients in something.
