Breakdown of Money for Buyout

SMF is like an NFL GM, his only HC candidates are recycled former HCs

I wouldn't want Hoiberg but would rather have him than a MM coach. He made a Sweet 16 and cheats his ass off with his henchman, Matt Abdelmassih. Pitt would be a pipeline to NYC again. Not endorsing him but like him better than pulling a name out of a mid-major hat

I agree with your last paragraph but confused on your 1st.

He won the SEC reg season title in Year 2 and they are currently #16 on KenPom. With wins over Gonzaga and Houston.

They also have losses to Iona, Davidson, Memphis, and Mizzou. I'm just not impressed with this year's Bama team.

Just my opinion, but I think the SEC is overrated this year. Check out some of their games. I'm not impressed in the least with Bama, LSU, or Tennessee. I don't think any of those teams are built for a deep run in March. Auburn, and possibly UK. Other than that, I don't see it.

Apologies to Jimmy Dykes.

They have 9 teams better than ACC #2

The issue is that you don’t actually know ANYTHING about any of these mid major coaches. You just call all of them lottery tickets.

that’s fair. I am curious as to bballinsider’s post about Oats/Saban… not like Saban became the GOAT overnight.

Although Maryland basketball certainly gets all the attention there

Because they are. Nobody knows anything about them. Guy wins MM league, gets P6 job and then 75% get fired within 5-6 years. Rinse, repeat. Most of these guys HAVE to fail. That's kind of the point. I don't trust Pitt to get lucky like they did with Howland.

He is playing second fiddle as I’m not the most important person in the athletic department and hoops will always be #2. At Maryland or even Pitt, it could be #1

Just crazy that we have our football team in a place where we could be an annual Top 25 team but the basketball program is in such disarray.

Basketball is the sport where it should be easier for a school like us to spend money and be relevant and in the right circumstances compete for championships

Oats, Williams, or Medved - There it is. That’s the list for Heather. 🙂

I am pretty confident in her ability to hire a good coach this time around. Especially because you can’t go 0/2 with major hires if she ever wants one of the B10 AD jobs.

Just more nervous she won’t pull the trigger this year

Correct. She can't go 0 for 2 which is why she can't pull a MM name out of a hat. Gotta get a guarantee

What’s going on is probably “Buzz Williams being a titanic asshole”
Imagine Brandin knight coaching his entire career with Jamie, then all of a sudden leaving for PSU with Pitt’s best player. That’s what happened with Jamie McNeilly and Buzz and McNeilly has never been happier…

The exact opposite of what Pitt needs. Maryland fans couldn’t stand his coaching

he’s fine. U could pull almost anyone other than Vader or SMF and win ar Maryland though

Oh I completely agree - I miss Vader. Haven’t seen any ORTG posts lately.

Must be working on the Class of 2025 list. Heard a few of those kids really like Capel

Yea - we aren’t even punting on 4th down anymore. Capel has moved onto the Walt Harris Quick Kick on 3rd Down strategy in regards to recruiting.

Anyway about it … the Pete feels like a ghost town. Crowds for exhibition games in 2002-2003 and 2008-2009 were 2 to 3 times greater than what we are getting for ACC games now.
I saw my primary care physician the other day and he said he went to a game earlier and couldn’t believe how small the crowd was. He said he paid $12.00 for three tickets from a scalper, whereas in the past he paid as much as $75 for one ticket. He asked me “what the hell happened?”

We had the right circumstances with Ben and then Jamie - very good coaches.
