No, not talking about England leaving the EU, I am talking England leaving the EC at the hands of Iceland. Yes Iceland!

Iceland knocks off England and sends them home in the round of 16.

Iceland, the entire country has the population of Pittsburgh. I am not talking the Pittsburgh metro area, I am talking about Pittsburgh proper. Iceland, with less registered soccer players than the state of Rhode Island.

And they beat England.

I lucked out with vacation. Got to watch Chile-Argentina last night, which was gloriously nasty and full of hate.

And of course, the great game today by Iceland. The were deserved winners. This despite their coach and many players holding down 'real' jobs. Just an amazing display of teamwork and wanting it more. Two cliches, that couldn't have rung more true.

Iceland to England..."if you want to leave the EU take your stinkin football team with you".

Where are all the kickball advocates on this?? I would think they would be all over one of the great upsets in the sports history. No, perhaps their only interest is telling us how kickball is overtaking America.

England was just flat out terrible. Not a very good team, poor team management, and terrible game planning.
My English friends weren't even upset. They just knew this was gonna be ugly.

But losing to Iceland, geez that's bad. No pro league, tiny population, coach is a dentist, etc etc

England is overrated, sure the BPL is the best pro league, but they basically sign most of the best players from all the countries in the world, if not all, close, I'm sure La Liga and Bundesliga get their share, but BPL has to be #1.

It is not a question of being "overrated". You can Florida State was overrated last year, and if they lost the Citadel, that would still be a monumental upset. And that was the equivalent to this game, match, pitch, whatever.

Stephen Colbert had a great line about this last night. He said England's loss to Iceland was the worst thing to happen to that country in four full days.

England is to International Soccer as Notre Dame is to College Football

Living off a reputation, but it isn't 1966 any more.
