Lot's of good discussions on the Lady Panthers game last night and also on Brianna Kiesel, so I thought I'd post a nice article on her from the Knoxville Sentinel. There is also another article on their site which has this great nugget...

UT coach Holly Warlick, a former point guard, said she shared a brief conversation with Kiesel afterward that amounted to an invitation.

"I asked her if she wanted to come with us," Warlick said.

Pretty cool. Tennessee gave Kiesel a framed photograph of former Lady Vol Candace Parker, the player Kiesel grew up idolizing.

Pitt had Tennessee fans feeling a little uncomfortable at times last night.

Tennessee is not a power house this year. They have four players, 6-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, injured and unable to play. But next season, they will be able to play with anyone, including UCONN.

On the other hand, the hard copy of the Pittsburgh newspaper had its main coverage of the game in the form of an article written by Dustin Dopirak, another Knoxville reporter. It was a nice article, but it meant that the culmination of one of the best recent Pittsburgh sports stories was not really covered by the local paper. I'm sure the PG was relieved that Pitt did not pull the upset. And to add insult, the PG ran 4 photos with their out-of-town article.

--The main photo showed Brianna Kiesel having one of her shots blocked.
--Another photo showed BK "...losing control of the ball as she drove to the basket..."
--Another photo showed Yacine Diop getting a shot blocked.
--The 4th photo showed Coach Suzie letting somebody have it in the heat of the game - not a photo that Coach Suzie would be happy with.

These are the type of photos I would expect to see in a Knoxville paper - showing good moments by the Vols for readers of the Knoxville paper.

Just another wonderful job by the PG. I'm sure BK will cherish that article and accompanying photos when she looks back at her career.

Go Pitt.

Well said Major.......

I have always thought the Pitt fans on this board that whine about Smizik and Cook are a bunch of pussies....but your post.......and the reality of what the PG presented........speaks volumes about the apathy this so-called great newspaper exhibits.

Trout season is starting up soon. I will be sure to bring a couple copies of the PG in case I get lost in the woods.

If you think Cook and Smize bashers are pussies then you haven't been reading their garbage for the last 30 years.

Here's a quote from Brianna Kiesel from the Trib article by the Trib's very own Karen Price:

"I gave it all I had (Monday)," Kiesel said, pausing for a moment as she fought back tears. "I couldn't have asked for a better university to play for. I couldn't ask for a better coach to play for the last two years. No one expected anything from us this last year. I'm honored to be able to wear Pittsburgh across my chest."

What a classy young lady - and what a BB player. She will be missed.

Go Pitt.

Did we expect nayhting else ? It wasn't PSU/ So sad that a paper with "pittsburgh" i it's first name treats it's college teams like second class citizens.

There hasn't been a better game played in years and NO BETTER team or coach this year. from (picked to be) 15 th in ACC to (almost ) sweet 16.
