Burton, Gueye, and Sibande

Gueye can't have any eligibilty left, can he? He played two years at a juco and then two years at Stony Brook. This is the 5th season he's playing college basketball.

This year is his extra year.

Yeah he was the only one I wasn’t sure about. Nike may not get an extra year either.
These people seem to think he will

Yeah, the NCAA is going to have to be in a giving mood for him to get another year. He played three seasons at Miami, one at Pitt, and now he's hurt in year five. In the past guy's only ever got the 6th year if they had two season ending injuries and he has not had that. Will they give him an extra year since he got hurt in his 5th, extra covid season?

They might, but it's the NCAA so I wouldn't count on it.

I actually kind of doubt it. The scholarship limit is back down to 13 next year and I doubt they’re going to apply a medical for a guy in his 6th year since it’s not a blue blood

I like those people. They have absolutely no idea what the ncaa will do though. Pure speculation. As is mine.

"Sibande hasn’t used his redshirt season so he would be eligible to return and play for Pitt during the 2022-23 season."

That doesn't account for the fact that he's actually already played four seasons of college basketball and this was his fifth season.

I mean it's possible that the NCAA will give him a waiver and let him play next year, but anyone who thinks that it's a given doesn't understand the rules and the way the NCAA operates.

1 year was a covid year which doesnt count for anybody last year. Everyone gets an extra year. Sibande has only played 3 seasons in college since last year did not count because of covid. He can redshirt this year if he chooses.

Sibande and Burton can both return to Pitt.

They will certainly make a decision by March, 2023.

the question of course is, where does he fit with the brand new coaching staff.

LOL. Based on what? He’s a 6-7 PPG guy in the ACC. I told this entire board Femi was not the guy they said he was. And look what has happened to him…
Sorry, I thought you were talking about Nike.

But I think with better coaching and development, Femi is capable of that as well.

Most here expected that at seasons start.

There are a lot of people who assumed that they knew how this was going to work who have turned out in reality to have gotten it wrong. If you don't think that the NCAA could decided that he's already played four and redshirted one that he doesn't get a sixth then you have simply never paid any attention to the way that the NCAA operates.

and, given the circumstances, I think he'd get it.

Right, his opinion is that he'd get it. Note that he is NOT saying that that it's a done deal. He THINKS that he will get it, not he KNOWS that he will get it.

If I post in those bold letters does the point get through better?

So if last year counts as his covid year he had actually only played 3 years, correct?

That post by Meyer is exactly it. He COULD apply for a redshirt, and he MIGHT get one

If I capitalize entire words does the point get through better?

If that's the way that the NCAA interprets his situation. As I said, there have been people who were sure that they knew what the NCAA was doing with all this that turned out to be wrong.

I HOPE that Sibande can come back if he wants to. I THINK that there is a good chance they will allow him to. I don't KNOW for sure that they will.

The Covid year provided one the opportunity to play 5 seasons. Nike has played 4.

99.9% chance he is granted a redshirt

FR Miami
SO Miami
JR Miami
Covid Year Pitt
SR Pitt did not play
Year 6 - RS SR

With Gueye, this is his last year unless he redshirted 1 year at the JUCO and I don't think he did.

A. Meyer thinks Nike has a greater chance at another season if he wants one
B. Joe thinks Nike has a greater chance at another season if he wants one.
C. Meyer and Joe are in totally agreement on Nike‘s chances of getting another season if he wants one.

D. Joe and Meyer also both know that the NCAA frequently does not rule in the way that people assume that they will or that they should, so neither of them has said that anything is going to happen for sure.

I believe its in the rule book that all players are granted a 6th year because of covid if you want to use a redshirt. A big name company put an article out on this in regards to this to football earlier this year, it may have been sports illustrated, I cant remember. And I read this previously this was for anyone playing a "winter sport", not a a spring sport as the spring sports are little more sketchy with eligibility which is to what you are referring to in terms of actually getting the 6th year because of how the covid situation played out.

Anyhow, its not worth typing over, because Sibande actually needs to determine if he even wants to come back.
