But he can't catch...

He couldn't catch well (understandable considering how raw he was). I'm sure confidence played a large role in him turning the corner. Glad he put it all together. Looking forward to seeing what he can do next year (and in the NFL).

It was a fair assessment at this time last year.
Exactly! He dropped a wide open TD throw last year, and had other drops in limited duty. Kudos to Weah and the coaching staff/players for helping turn him into an option for quick scores. That catch he had in the Clemson game along the sidelines was sick! Hope he continues to progress.

FWIW, both Larry Fitzgerald & Tyler Boyd dropped crucial passes during their Pitt careers, too.

Anyone expecting perfection in a WR will surely be disappointed. Enjoy Jester's improvement.

I'm pretty sure everyone still holds their breath when a ball is thrown his way. That being said, he is a good player and a valuable player. And a recruiting gamble that paid off.

Recruiting speed is never a bad gamble, because elite speed cannot be taught. However, even a kid with boards for hands can have a gun shoot balls to him at different speeds for hours at a time, and learn to catch as long as heputs the time in.

Great to see Jester come so far. Figured he had a shot when HC PC used to put him in a game at times and called a few passes to him. Told me that Jester must have shown something in practices in spite of how lost he looked in games. (Though after last year's spring game, the doubts were still there...)

Congrats to Jester. Can still see him extending to make the catch on the slant and running away from everyone against the Orange.

Go Pitt.

Don't forget his play when the ball is not thrown his way... very solid.
The same can be said about Matthews..

FWIW, Jester Weah dropped more passes at Pitt than Fitzgerald and Boyd combined, and in a couple hundred less chances as well.

He certainly has improved his hands over his time here, but he still has a long way to go in that regard.

That was my point. If the two of the all-time greats dropped passes, why should we expect anything better from someone who clearly isn't in their category?

If you think Fitz and Boyd dropped passes at the rate that Weah dropped passes, then you need your head examined.

When did Fitz ever drop a crucial pass? I remember when Fitz dropped a pass across the middle that shocked everyone that he was human but never a crucial pass. Please remind me!

This, from a column written by Paul Zeise:

West Virginia 24, Pitt 17 (2002) - Rasheed Marshall caught a long pass, Larry Fitzgerald had a spectacular game but dropped the game-tying touchdown and the Panthers turned the ball over four times -including a fumble when a pitch from Rod Rutherford bounced off Lousaka Polites head. This was a huge win for WVU and I can remember the Mountaineers dancing around Heinz Field making the "Gator" sign with their arms, to signify that they were headed to the Gator Bowl! The only problem was Notre Dame took the Gator Bowl slot from the Big East that year and WVU ended up getting stomped by Virginia in Charlotte.

Well that's a really, ah, well, lets just call it an odd point. The greatest wide receiver in the history of football dropped a pass at some point, so why should we expect any receiver to catch any pass? I mean if Fitzgerald or Jerry Rice or Chris Carter could drop a pass then how can you expect a guy like Jester Weah to catch ANY passes?

No one, literally no one, is expecting anything better from Weah than we got from Fitzgerald. Which is a good thing, because we didn't get anything approaching Fitzgerald-like production from Weah. But just because the greats dropped a pass now and then that doesn't mean that we should expect receivers to drop passes all the time.

I would disagree that Weah drops passes "all the time". He had a nice season with 40 catches and 10 touchdowns and nearly 1000 yards.

Can we live with his flaws and imperfections? If not, that fan is probably SOL. I say that because Weah is probably the best down the field receiver they have heading into the 2017 season.

In his first two seasons at Pitt Weah played 17 total games and dropped every single pass that he had a chance to catch. Literally, every single one. I mean that number was not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but it was also no where near zero.

I don't know of anyone who tracks this for college receivers (I am sure that the coaches do, I mean publicly) but his drop percentage this season would have certainly been high for a major D1 receiver.

You know what else is high? His Yards per catch. He was second in the country in YPC. Only pitt fans can find a way to nitpick about a guy that lead the team in receptions, had ten touchdowns and was second n the friggin country in YPC.

Similarly, only people who don't really understand football can think that a wide receiver dropping a lot of passes is no big deal.

Against wvu his freshman year, in the end zone, which would have ensured a pitt victory.
