If all your players leave, chances are pretty good you are the problem and not “all” the individual players. How do you know what was behind these transfers, and by that I do not mean speculation?

I think the biggest cause to Capel's failure is the amount of players he had transferred.....his own recruits.
I'm just wondering everyone's thoughts and why Capel couldn't keep his recruits.
Could he not manage egos?
Did he recruit bad team players?
Bad staff?
Any ideas?
So speculation is what you have. By the way, "all" is hardly accurate. If all your players leave, chances are pretty good you are the problem and not “all” the individual players.

The real question is would having any, or all, of the players that transferred out made this year's team any more than marginally better?
I doubt it. No one of them is a really good 3-ball shooter. That is this team's biggest problem--no good to great 3-ball shooter(s) to keep opponents from packing it in and doubling or even tripling Hugley.
IMHO, the only player, had he not gone pro, who would have helped is Champagnie--not because of his 3-ball shooting which was only fair at best --but, because his baseline drive and rebounding threat would have taken some inside defensive pressure off of Hugley. He would have replaced Jeffress in the current starting lineup, IMO.
Love your view point; but I don't think Champagnie would be enough for that--IMHO, he would be just enough to get us to barely over 0.500 overall and a winning record at something like 17 or 18 wins heading into the ACC tourney in a year when the ACC is very weak. Maybe he would get us to an NIT bid. Just my opinion.Even without Horton and Sibande- Champagnie makes this team a tournament team.

X, Trey and Toney were all poor character reaches. They all topped out on their talent here and still lost with a NBA player covering for their deficiencies.

If Champ was back, this team would be an NCAA team in the top 6 of the ACC.The real question is would having any, or all, of the players that transferred out made this year's team any more than marginally better?

Why do people think these guys were just thrown into Capel's lap and if he had more time he would have performed a thorough psychological examination on all his recruits? I guarantee he'd recruit the high school versions of all three of these guys again tomorrow if given the chance.
Toney absolutely would make this team better. And Johnson is an inconsistent pain in the ass, but he's better than Femi.
Ya never know somebody until you live with them . Everyone’s nice ( normally) on dates !Why do people think these guys were just thrown into Capel's lap and if he had more time he would have performed a thorough psychological examination on all his recruits? Could be , but I doubt it . Unless he expects his players to unselfish and good teammates….. that fool !And maybe it's Capel that's the bad guy in the relationships?
For a comparison, last year Pitt beat Syracuse at home by 20, scoring 96 points. Last night’s Pitt team had players who scored 7 of those points. Pitt lost 89 points from last year and still managed to win by 11.The real question is would having any, or all, of the players that transferred out made this year's team any more than marginally better?

He seems to be having no problems at Arkansas.Skill wise- Toney helps this team but there's no way Capel should have allowed him on the team. He was a cancer and terrible teammate.
Why do you doubt it? it's not one guy, it's multiple guys, is it always because of the player?Could be , but I doubt it . Unless he expects his players to unselfish and good teammates….. that fool !

A lot of this is on the player, but some of it is on the coach. You're always going to have headaches on the team. Capel has been pretty terrible dealing with them.
Trey wanted to a pg and wasn’t anywhere close to X in pg skills and quit mid season .Why do you doubt it? it's not one guy, it's multiple guys, is it always because of the player?
Maybe Capel set Toney up with Justin’s girl !He seems to be having no problems at Arkansas.

So it's never the coaches fault, it's like a Mike Tomlin situation, always someone else.Trey wanted to a pg and wasn’t anywhere close to X in pg skills and quit mid season .
X couldn’t stop arguing with refs and getting T‘s which shows a total lack of maturity and quit on his team before the season was over
Toney …every yr threatened to transfer and slept with his teammates girl …some pal
I understand the frustration with JC and the bb program , but my monies on JC vs these 3 guys in this conversation.
Didn’t say that , but I think most on here would agree that those three had issues .So it's never the coaches fault, it's like a Mike Tomlin situation, always someone else.
If Toney went to Arkansas and was an ass they’d just tell him don’t let the door hit you on the way out .He seems to be having no problems at Arkansas.

Pitt could have done the same thing, rather than placating and letting things fester. It's ok to set expectations, hold people accountable, and even make an example of them when necessary. If Toney went to Arkansas and was an ass they’d just tell him don’t let the door hit you on the way out .
Well in some fantasy land where great or even really good kids are wanting to come to Pitt then you put your foot down .Pitt could have done the same thing, rather than placating and letting things fester. Frankly, if his recruiting was better it wouldn't have lingered. Easier to take action when you have options.
It's not like Pitt has never recruited players. It's Jeff's job to get them here.Well in some fantasy land where great or even really good kids are wanting to come to Pitt then you put your foot down .
People at every level put up with a lot of crap if you can play …AB perfect example.
From my understanding he threw X out of multiple practices and benched him .It's not like Pitt has never recruited players. It's Jeff's job to get them here.
Ben Howland set the tone in year one, even with the JC forward he brought in. Also disciplined Knight several times.
I was posting about about Toney, but he also gave X too much rope. From my understanding he threw X out of multiple practices and benched him .
Your assuming you know what goes on behind closed doors !
We don’t have any idea how he handled Toney , but he didn’t discipline Justin for laying him out ! ( as far as we know )I was posting about about Toney, but he also gave X too much rope.
