-Prior to Capel, VCU had 1 NCAA Tournament invite in 18 years. Capel won the conference title in his 2nd year and made the NIT his 3rd year. He recruited Eric Maynor, the best player in VCU history. After leaving for OU, Maynor and VCU won 2 more league titles in the next 3 years, and beat Duke in the NCAA Tournament. Maynor was drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft and was the Conference Player of the Year. He firmly rebuilt this program

-Upon attending OU, 3 recruits that had signed with Kelvin Sampson at OU had decided to leave, the big one Scottie Reynolds to Villanova and Damian James to Texas. In his 3rd year at 34 years old, OU went to the Elite 8 and lost to National Champion North Carolina. Blake Griffin was the #1 pick in the NBA draft. Willie Warren missed 11 games in 2009-2010, a preseason All American with back spasms who was a Top 5 pick. He also needed and had ankle surgery in March. With sanctions looming, 5 underclassmen left the team and Warren went to the NBA. 2010-2011 the season was over before it started

-Capel won a National Title as the Top assistant at Duke. Between 1980-2010, Duke had 2 one and done players. With Capel, Duke is going to have 15 one and done players since he was the ACE recruiter at Duke

-Pitt's recruiting in the future should look like this

We all know Capel’s record and there’s certainly reason for optimism, but stop trying to sugarcoat his Oklahoma record. Neither Capel himself and probably not even his mother is going to try and say he did a good job there.

Hopefully he has become a better coach sitting next to Coach K for the last 7 years and is determined to show that he’s better than he showed at Oklahoma as a really young guy.

If you’re trying to paint him as some big success there that’s telling me you really didn’t follow college basketball at the time.

-We can revisit this when Sean Miller's Arizona program gets the Ax dropped on their head for violations

Deal.

I want to see Capel succeed as much or more as you, but he didn’t do anything close to a good job at Oklahoma, and I’m willing to bet he’d admit that as well.

Sean Miller was a classmate of mine at Pitt and I always thought he was kind of a dick, but he’s achieved a hell of a lot more than Jeff Capel so far, it’s not even close.

I have reason to believe Capel’s future is a lot better than his past, I just don’t see any reason to pump up his head coaching record to something that it’s not.

-What was pumped? Sanctions came down and the whole roster left at OU. You see Arizona right now? They have 6 total players vs our current 2. They suck, and the sanctions didnt even come down yet right on their head

I don’t give a shit about Arizona, I’m saying Capel was not a good coach at Oklahoma.

I think he will be better this time around, but if you think he was a good coach at Oklahoma you’re either clueless or didn’t follow Oklahoma basketball.

Well fellas if I may interrupt...what seems constant in many posts across all boards regarding Oklahoma Is this..."well, if he didn't have Blake Griffin...blah blah". Well he did have Griffin and that was part of his job to get Griffin and keep him there...all teams should have a player like that with other pieces built around him. I don't think we should hold that against his coaching abilities. Sure he was young and all else that comes with youth. Hopefully we finally get someone whose edges are polished. We'll see.
