I came across an interesting article this morning that discussed former Pitt star Lesean McCoy. The focal point was really on McCoy's workload this upcoming season with the Buffalo Bills, but there was a mention of his Hall of Fame chances early in the article.

Unfortunately I don't see it. Mostly because he's had the bad luck to be on mostly bad teams, beyond his control. His occasional bad PR episodes won't help either.

It is going to take about 3 or 4 career type years for him to have a chance.

if you consider 1,200 yard years "career" type years (had 1,267 last year and no one called it such)... Would make him the 5th or 6th leading rusher of all time along with one of the best yards per carry average of similar backs.

Sounds about right. 3 more 1,200 yard years gives him a good shot. 4 more makes him a lock. Especially if he makes a couple more pro bowls or makes All-Pro one more time. And if Buffalo actually decides to wins a game once in a while.

His yards per carry average is one of the best of all time (currently). If he rushes for 1000 yards this season, that might be enough.

If you look at the top 50 rushers of all time (by total yardage) and order that list by YPC, then McCoy is tied for 5th at 4.7 YPC. The only players ahead of that average are Brown, Sanders, Peterson and Joe Perry from the 50s. Tied with McCoy are O.J., Tiki Barber and oddly enough DeAngelo Williams.

If he breaks 10,000 total yards (currently at 8,954) then it really should be a no brainer.

yards render that meaningless....ask Barry Sanders about playing on lousy teams...
