Didn't get home until only about six minutes left in regulation, but this is a good game. Pete Nance hit a shot at the buzzer to tie the game and send it to overtime. Carolina currently with a three point lead.

Carolina wins 89-84 in overtime.

Bacot with 28 and 15. Love with 22 and Davis with 21. All other Carolina players combined for 18.

Bacot returning was HUGE for UNC.

Would‘ve loved to have seen Davis come to Pitt. He’s a VERY good player.

Yeah with Bacot back they should run us out of the gym. Those 3 are as good as any 3 in the country. Unfortunately he couldn’t stay out a few games longer

I dont think so. This UNC team isnt close to the one last year with Manek, at least not right now they aren't. And it was Manek that carried them in the NCAA Tournament a year ago putting up monster shooting performances to get them to the final 4.

This same UNC team has wins against Portland by 8, Gardner Webb by 6, and UNCW by 13, all at home. They don't look anything close to the preseason number 1 team in the country. They also got beat up in their only 2 road games they played, losing both comfortably.

Torvik and Pomeroy disagree on UNC's defense and national worth right now. Im closer aligned with Torvik on this, in that UNC barely has a top 100 level defense right now. And they look closer to a number 30 team Nationally right now.

At #30 nationally; they’d still be much better than us. And Bacot is finally looking like Bacot. They’re gonna beat us easily.

Last year UNC had wins against Brown by 7, Charleston by 11 and Furman by 13. Is that really all that different?

Its not that its all that different except they had 1 player play way over his head in the NCAA Tournament in Manek. Pitt beat UNC last year. It was late in the season when Manek stepped up, averaged almost 20 points per game on 50% from 3 in the tournament for the deep run.

My point is, this UNC team doesnt look anything close to the preseason number 1 team in the country or a team that we should fear and think its an auto loss right now. My point also is, I think we can challenge if not beat them. Im more concerned with getting clobbered by Clemson again than this UNC team, but that's me.

I agree that we shouldn't assume a loss to Carolina. But Carolina is clearly better than Clemson.

UNC is better than Clemson. But we never show up against Clemson and Clemson always brings its A++ game against us. We have a 9 game losing streak to them, and were killed in most of those games.

It was no where near just Manek. Late last season and into the tournament both a Love and Davis started taking better care of the ball and were making shots. It elevated the entire team to championship level. Granted, Manek made that team much harder to defend than this year's version. They will live and die based on how Davis and Love perform this year. You have to figure Bacot is going to get his, but Davis and Love have not resembled anything close to what they were down the stretch last season.

Anyway if we can defend the two guards reasonably well, I see no reason why we can't be competitive with them. They are not very deep on the bench and Manek's replacement and Leeky Black are not exactly offensive juggernauts. Since we often times are lazy defending the 3 ball, my only real worry as far as being blown out is Love and Davis raining 3's.

I pumped RJ Davis a lot on here back when he was a 3 star unranked recruit in high school with minimal offers when he missed the entire AAU season recovering from his leg injury as a junior. And Davis is a fine player in college. But in last years NCAA Tournament he shot 31% over 6 games. He wasn't close to the difference maker Manek was. Love was up and down but had some big moments and games in the NCAA's.

Manek was a 6'9 forward who was unconscious from 3 and consistently shot it well 6 games in a row at 50% from 3. He carried that team in the tournament.

We'll see what happens with this UNC team. But so far, they remind me of Georgia Tech in 2005. And why is that? In 2004, Tech made it all the way to the Championship game, losing to Uconn. They lost 1 player, Marvin Lewis, their ace 3 pointer shooter. In 2005 they were preaseason top 3 nationally and were not even close to the same team without their ace shooter when the entire roster came back. Ive seen this type of thing happen a number of times, when you lose 1 star shooter that opens up the entire offense for the rest of the team, the team isnt near as good the following season. This UNC team is shooting 30% from 3 this season. That wont get it done in the tournament this year, not even close.

You can twist those stats any way you would like to fit your narrative. If you look at two key games, Baylor and ucla, you would find that Love and Davis had big games. I am not diminishing Manek's importance to the performance of that team. That said, they do not beat those two teams without Davis going 5-10 from 3 against Baylor, and Love going 6-13 from 3 against UCLA. While their overall percentage was not great, they can go off any game. That is what I would be most worried about when they play us.
