CB from Cal U visiting us this weekend

Lol. Any decent offensive tackles at Geneva we can complement this addition with?

Before adding insults as usual, this kid was an All American in D2. Cory Sanders was recruiting him a few years back for us and visited wv. Some of these D2 players are on NFL rosters. H2P!

Not first team.

Also, FCS is one thing... but D2 is a pretty sizeable leap. You could give me the entire All American Division II team, and I'm not sure they would win two games in the ACC.

I'm glad you can evaluate talent and have a job doing so. I understand being down about our recruiting but do you have anything positive to say? Actually I spoke with some Pitt coaches about him a few days ago. But continue H2P

This is true but there are some D2 players who would be legit P4 starters. Maybe this kid is one.

Yes, there is the dude from Slippery Rock who went to the Vikings, Dan Kreider who played at Shippensburg, etc., etc., etc. You're right that, just as not all 2-stars end up sucking, I am sure there are some D2 guys who could succeed in the ACC.

I'm just playing the law of averages, here. Pitt - who sucks, who is supposedly broke, and who has a coach that seems to have all but checked out - recruiting dudes from Cal U isn't exactly the news I'm itching to hear at the moment.

I have no idea if this guy will be good or not, but CJ Goodwin is a DB from Cal who has had a good NFL career. He currently plays for Dallas.

Generally, your top D2/FCS players are going to be better than HS players, at least coming in. Now, the HS players have a higher ceiling and can get to be really good but then you also have to worry about them transferring.

Interestingly, Drake basketball hired the D2 champ coach and he brought most of his team with him and they are 10-1 with a NET of 57.

Marion offered. I know that changes everything for you.

Are we talking about Rashan Murray? If so, I’m ok taking a flyer on 6-2 cornerback that runs a 4.5 forty.

This is just where we are at with our NIL budget.

I guess it would impress me a little more if he were from, like, California the state or something. That would have a feel of this coaching staff going out and turning over every stone in spite of having limited resources. It just seems a little too convenient that the D2 dude we're looking at just so happens to be a city league guy from a local college. Maybe I'm nitpicking.

Although I'm also a little tired of being gaslighted into believing every scrub we add to this roster is a "solid pickup" and then watching us lose to a good team by four touchdowns with these guys.

Yeah, two years ago most of the transfers were just WPIAL guys coming home.
Last year it was FCS.
This year it'd D2 with this kid and the Ferris State kid.

We just don't have the donors.

Narduzzi is in Stallings semi-retirement mode. Milking that Heather contract until the end.

The D2 level has tons of kids who could play at PITT/BC/UVA/CUSE/etc..

We're not talking about playing in the NFL. We're talking about upper echelon kids in their 3rd/4th/5th year of college who are far superior then some underdeveloped 17/18 year old coming out of HS.

John Kuhn. Damnit - mixed my fullbacks up.
Jon Witman - Eastern York, PSU, Steelers

Jon Ritchie - Cumberland Valley, Mich/Stanford, Raiders

Dan Kreider - Manheim Central, UNH, Steelers

John Kuhn - Dover, Ship, Steelers

Mike Cox - Red Land, Georgia Tech, Chiefs

District 3 might be the mecca for fullbacks in the past 30 years lol..

Damn, you're right. From homesick Florida Gators to raiding FCS rosters/coaching staffs to D2/D3 guys. Next year we might pillage an actual traveling circus.

Wasn't Hynoski District III also?

This is correct. The PSAC All-Star team would beat a team of Narduzzi-recruited lowly rated Pitt freshmen. But those players usually stay and get better. But as FR, they aren't very good. Doesn't mean you dont recruit them but you have to wait on them.

So recruit them and wait on them. Why are we acting like the only two options are D2 players or low-rated freshmen?

I honestly have no idea on that one. Not a highly ranked recruit. From middle of nowhere California. They are desperate for DEs. They must have a scouting report on him somehow.

As opposed to waiting on ones who chose Cal over Lock Haven, Seton Hill, and Don Farr Moving Company?

They are developing off of your books. You get them when they are ready. I am not sure Pitt should be taking any lowly rated HS players anymore. Seems like a waste of time. Not saying get all D2 players but I think we need to de-emphasize HS and try to get blue blood backups and G5/FCS kids with a D2 here or there if they are good enough.

Kyle Louis, Braylan Lovelace, and Rasheem Biles are three of their best players and they're all low-rated high school guys. High School recruiting is important, because it's the best path to high-end talent, which they will almost never get out of the portal (i.e. once a guy is proven and more expensive).

I agree, need numbers from HS.

They should be able to realize quickly who are players and who aren't. Guys who don't flash get sent to the portal.

Sucks for those guys, but it's all business decisions now.

And those guys were lit up by frigging Toledo. 0 for 5 on 2 point conversions. I get what you are saying but is focusing on HS players really working for us? We've lost 5+ games in 8 of the last 10 years. We need to try something different. One place I'd start is with JUCOs since they get 4 years now.

The try something different is pay a lot more for better players. It's a tried-and-true method to increase talent on anyone's roster.

So was Nate Matlack, Chief Borders, Nick James, Poppi Williams, Lyndon Cooper, Donovan McMillon, Jake Overman, etc., etc., etc. lit up by Toledo. We don't focus only on high school recruiting; we probably have 30+ transfers, and most of them suck.

I'm a broken record with this, but Kyle Louis is an All American. He could pretty much name his school. Do you think we would have any chance in hell at obtaining that type of talent via the transfer portal? You could say the same for Kancey, Jones, Weaver, Pickett, Dennis, O'Neill, Conner, Morrissey, Hallett, Pinnock, Maddox, Jackson, etc. I'm not including the more highly sought-after recruits who played for Narduzzi and got drafted, because we don't get those anymore.

What's killing us is a downgrade in high school recruiting in conjunction with a few key positions we've hit on leaving. If this was pre NIL and Edwards, Okunlola, Gandy, etc. were sticking around we would be fine. Instead, we have to plug holes with mids from the transfer portal. Anyone who would want a program like Pitt to assemble an entire *team* from the transfer portal would have to be a masochist.
