That simple psychological cliche describing one's outlook as 'glass half-empty/glass half-full' is certainly prevalent among Pitt's fanbase, as well as all others. Earlier, the 'glass half full' voiced their opinions, now the 'glass half empty' is showing up in force. Penn State's fanbase for instance was in reverse to that. Well, guess what, most football programs have their ups and downs, so there is room for both outlooks to have their opportunity to show up. Look up and down the college football landscape and you see fluid movement in results. Not long ago, programs such as Miami, Texas, Notre Dame, Mich St, USC, Ga, Oregon, UCLA, and Penn St, to name a few, were atop of the world in cfb. Since then, they all have fallen on some hard times and had losing results in varying degrees for various reasons. It happens to most programs, except the elite few. At some point it will swing the other way for them. Well, Pitt has had its share of tough times with continued transition in coaching and admin over a period of time. The results have not been satisfactory enough to the fanbase even when they won 27 games in 3 years under Wanny. Well, the pendulum continues to swing up and down, but, as some point, the fortunes will shift. The admin is supportive and the staff is in place, so, with a few more blue-chippers, and a few close games that are won instead of lost, the 'glass half-full' people will be riding high again. Have faith and believe. Pitt's time will come. The season is not over in cfb, but hope is eternal, now and in the future. H2P.

Good post but minus Miami, look at who you listed - Texas, ND, MSU, USC, Ga, etc. They are programs for the most part that have great turnout regardless of results. So yes, they can have down years but their fanbase still donate and still show up. Not with Pitt. Now I know there are some who will read this and point out that Pitt has had a string of bad years, even decades if you will, but even when Pitt was at the TOP, support was never like those other programs. Even if Pitt strung together multiple good seasons - not NC type but good seasons - there will always be those waiting for the first chink to jump off the wagon. Depressing, but reality. That's not you or me or even many who are here on the boards, but it is the great majority.

Right about the ups, downs-Its just Pitt hasn't gotten all the way 'up' like all the teams you mentioned (and a lot more below those elite) that have, even at least once.
