PITT 10-2:
The Panthers get a nice test from a good Youngstown State team to be battle ready for a trip to Penn State and a date with Oklahoma State. Pitt wins both games before starting out the ACC season with a win at Georgia Tech. With a win at Syracuse, Pitt is 6-0 going into the home date against NC State. It wins that, takes care of Duke and Virginia, and all of a sudden, this is the big national story going into a week off. It’s not good enough to go unbeaten, but it finishes up strong – winning at least two of the last three games against North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Miami – and goes a stunning 10-2

The Panthers lose to both Penn State and Oklahoma State, making the ACC opener at Georgia Tech a desperation game. They lose, starting out 1-3 before the schedule settles down a little bit. However, a loss to NC State or against one of the road games at Syracuse and Duke, putting the pressure on to finish up hot against the Tar Heels, Hokies and Hurricanes. They won’t finish with a losing record, but in an awful year, it goes 6-6.
