Let me start with knowing Pat when he was NIST (was part of the cybersecurity framework workshops). If you have not had a chance to meet him yet, Pat is down to earth and is a guy who wants to see Pitt succeed in every facet. He sees Pitt athletics (mainly football and basketball) as pretty much the marketing arm of the entire university, which is something I have said for a long time Pitt needs to wake up to....and they finally have with Pat becoming the Chancellor at Pitt.
I think between Pat and Barnes, we are in very good hands. I really look forward to how Barnes starts to develop working donors and corporations for money, which is something he was known for when hired. Pat definitely is going to provide "start-up capital" to make sure progress continues and the funds are there to make it happen...at the end of the day, the money is marketing for the school itself. Actual studies have been done where success athletically typically lends to higher application rates.
But what really started this post is that Pat simply isnt a man behind the scenes or the guy who shows up only to give out a plaque at half time. He is not only meeting with the students during the games, but rather celebrating Pitt's success with them. Thats how you build lifetime alumni and passion for a school. People want to see leaders lead from the front and not from the rear. Thats Gallagher.
We are in good hands.
