Who?

Signing 5 freshman is never going to happen , they need the ships for the 20 class unless they’re going to chase off more players . I think Pitt will end up with two grad transfers and I wouldn’t be surprised at a third or a regular transfer and two freshman . I’m not going to be concerned until I see what the class looks like . Can’t see how a 6 ‘8” project will help .
Don’t think Davis or Brown are going anywhere and if George wanted to go why is he wasting another semester ? 2020 is when he’s got a chance to bring in a program changing class and he needs all the ships he can get . Next yr he needs experienced big men and a shooter who can step right in and play = grad transfers if he wants to be more competitive . Now if he doesn’t care about next season then you take a few project guys .....he cares !He still has 2 opening for 2020 (Chuk and Ellison), and that assumes George, Davis, and Brown all stay. It wouldn’t surprise me for George and Davis to leave after this year, in which case we’d have 7 open scholarships and zero signed recruits.
Nah....recruiting is recruiting. You people put too much stock into success. Hell, at Pitt we have seen where the highest success doesn't equate into recruiting success.Right after his hire, he was able to market himself as leaving the top program in the country and their 1-and-done players for a new job with ample minutes to offer. Now he's Pitt's coach, and his marketability is tied to what results we get. His freshmen are certainly the best we've seen in some time, but they aren't 1-and-dones and the team is still toward the bottom of the conference.
I agree that with the volume of spots he has available, he should've taken a couple moderate guys early just so that he can say he already has something to build from in the spring. That's why giving up so early on Stevenson was sort of baffling to me. He's taken a very arrogant, risky approach to this, all things considered.
It might be Pitt admin and not Capel. Howland said you can't win long term at Pitt. At some point, after coach after coach cannot recruit here, but can elsewhere (Howland, Dixon, Capel), the common thread is the school.Nah....recruiting is recruiting. Recruiting is done by 3 things, 1) obviously blue bloods, 2) great salesmen 3) highest bidder.
Let's look at the Illini. Last year they got 5 star guard Ayo Dosunmu. Also, 4 star top 100 kid Tevian Jones. They also recruited a 6'11" kid and a 6'9" kid. Last year. This year, they just landed 5 star 6'11" Kofi Cockburn and already had a commitment from 4 star Antwan January who is also 6'11" and a top 120 player.
Illinois. Illinois is 4-13 this year. They were 14-18 last year. They were 18-14 the year before. 15-19 the year before that. Bruce Underwood is their coach. You can line up 100 casual college BB fans and ask them if they heard of Bruce Underwood or Jeff Capel, and I think you will find it decidedly in favor of Capel.
Now...why are these kids, especially a multitude of them playing the same position gravitating to the cornfields of the middle of Illinois? They certainly ain't a blueblood. It ain't location, location, location. It is obvious that someone has become a pretty active bagman.
Which I am worried about Capel. We know that likely happened when he was at Oklahoma. At Duke, we can all assume improper benefits, but let's face it these special 1 and done kids, they are only spending 8-10 months at a school, so I don't think improper benefits is as enticing to go there as it is having fun, playing with buddies and trying to win and championships. So the bluebloods I don't think have to pay as much as we think, Pitt does however. And I am afraid if it is going to be the same old same old, Capel will cut an run as soon as he can.
Being "afraid" is no way to go through life.Nah....recruiting is recruiting. You people put too much stock into success. Hell, at Pitt we have seen where the highest success doesn't equate into recruiting success.
