Pitt linebacker commit Chase Pine visited Virginia Tech over the weekend. When he got back home, Pitt linebackers coach Rob Harley was one of the first calls he made.
"I told them I compared the two and that Pitt was the better fit by far," Pine told me.
Pine is set to talk with Pat Narduzzi on Monday. That conversation should be the final pre-Signing Day development in Pine's recruitment, but as of Sunday night, it sounds like he'll still end up at Pitt.
We've seen a lot with Pine over the last 8 months, but I really don't think there has been much dishonesty. I think that when he has said he won't take any more visits, he has genuinely meant it, even on those occasions when he has changed his mind and taken another visit (even 24 hours later). But I think that through all of it he still wanted to be committed to Pitt, even as he looked around.
Either way, it does sound like things may be settled now. We'll check in with Pine again after he talks to Narduzzi on Monday.
