Chris Beard to Texas

If Shaka left, say 2 years earlier, you wonder if Dixon's boy woulda brought him to Austin. As it stands, Jamie is probably something like 2 more NCAA-less seasons from being canned

Would seem to be. We'll see.

Texas has been a coaching graveyard of late.
It was the best hire Texas could have realistically made. There is nothing to see.

Will it work out for Beard and was it the right move by Beard? We shall see.

It can't be particularly easy recruiting to Lubbock. But at the same time it's a program in a major conference with decent facilities and not a ton of pressure.

I really don’t think JD has any realistic options for a vertical move at this point. Probably very few options for a horizontal. The resume material that would make him an attractive candidate for a P5 coaching job is pretty far in the rearview in 2021. 10 years or so.

Well, right now, yea, he'd be a candidate at a lower P5 school. I actually said BC should look at him. He'd get them to competitiveness and probably 1 NCAAT bid like TCU. DePaul could do worse.

He's a perfectly capable coach that I think would be a good fit at a good mid-major program in a favorable league. Kids at those schools are there for 4 years, they don't mind being coached, and are more likely to buy into hard work, defense., rebounding, etc if he decides to go back to those foundational principles that gave him his best days at Pitt. That would be his best path to getting back to the NCAA tournament and making himself relevant again. I can see him coaching a UCSB or the like and doing well.
