Think he will help improve our WR spot. But really seems he has a chance to make a difference as a recruiter.

In the short time he has been at Pitt a bunch of guys from his recruiting area have got offers. It’s one thing to offer but he is starting to get them to visit. Sure some will say that is nothing, but if you can’t even get a kid to visit then it’s going to be hard to get them to commit. I think his work will start to pay off more in the 2021 class.

This weekend he has about 10 kids from the Virginia Beach & Norfolk VA area visiting. A few of the big names are:

-5 star Norfolk Virginia DT Katron Evans (2021). He has offers from Clemson, Bama, OSU and just about ever big name.

-4 star Virginia Beach DB Tony Grimes (2021) Clemson, Bama, OSU, LSU etc.

-4 star Virginia Beach S Nehki Meredith (2020) LSU, PSU, TX A&M etc.

Plus he has a number of 3 star kids visiting with other ACC & P5 offers.

Hope I'm wrong but Pitt's chance of getting any of the 4 and 5 stars from Virginia are slim to none IMO.

History shows Pitt’s chances of getting 4 and 5 stars from most places are not good. After about 15 or so schools this is true for most.

The point is I think he can be a factor in recruiting. Like Partridge has connections in south Florida, Beatty has a long history recruiting Virginia. And the main point is that he is getting kids on campus. Because the truth is Pitt like most schools not named Clemson or Bama has no chance at signing a kid if they can’t get them to visit.

The areas in VA he is recruiting have lots of talent. Hell I will take another kid like 2 star Patrick Jones. I believe Jones could have a big year.

It’s not like these kids are here for an official so most of these kids probably drove about 6 or more hours to visit. Doubt most of these kids would have made the trip if Beatty was not at Pitt. One of these 3 star kids may decide they don’t want to go to VT (lots of issues this past season) and pick Pitt. And maybe that player turns out to be a baller...we shall see.

Beatty is the MAIN reason these kids are looking/visiting/listening about Pitt. Just like in Florida or Georgia, let's say, Pitt isn't going to get the top 10-20 kids (4-5* guys), but hopefully the next tier, that's what Pitt needs to shoot for.

Relationships matter and Beatty is bringing these relationships from Maryland and in 3-4 months being here, it's resonating. Let's go out and beat UVA/VT again and win the ACC and maybe it'll show even more. Winning usually helps ha.

You really hit the nail on the head. It's unfortunate timing that Pitt is playing their most difficult schedules while the WPIAL is so bad and has little depth.

Many on here wanted to see a Beatty type recruiter for the longest time. He's here. He's doing what good to great recruiters do. But to some it's now a waste of time getting them to visit? Some kids want to get away from home but not too far. Some kids will be enamored with the Steeler thing. They need to actually be on campus and see the Southside Steeler thing in person. And Aaron being visible around the program. This only can help.

Yes as you said he is doing what good to great recruiters do. He is getting them on campus and selling the program.

In the article above the #1 ranked corner in the nation Tony Grimes talked about how he hit it off with PN and how Beatty is “my guy” and how Beatty told him “no one will recruit me harder”.

Coffee is for closers.

I think HCPN is learning that without a good recruiting staff, he's going to be out of a job. Some of his early picks, while not bad coaches were not good recruiters. Tom Sims is a good case in point. Not a bad coach, but could not land recruits, especially the three kids Pitt wanted for DE in 2016 that went to VT. If he can get the classes up to a 25-35 standard, then he will consistently win.

The broader point here, and one that is sure to pay dividends, is that we have legitimate irons in the fire in Tidewater.

That’s a really big deal!

If we can start pulling kids out of that area and the Atlanta Metro and Central and South Florida — all areas that we are clearly trying to recruit – that is huge!

Then, you complement that with some players out of the Beltway, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan and of course Pennsylvania, you can be damn successful here.

That’s obviously a helluva lot easier said than done but that definitely appears to be the strategy and personally, I think it’s an excellent strategy.

https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/201...chance-to-make-a-mark-recruiting-in-virginia/

Deon Glover veteran VA HS coach and father of recruit Tony Grimes was impressed with PN & Pitt. He said, “Pitt has a great head coach. Coach Narduzzi is a great guy. Coach Beatty was a big hire because, wherever he goes he gets recruits.”

He went on to speak of PN saying, “It’s very obvious he’s a players’ coach. He’s like a dad and will give it to you raw but he’ll still love you, I love that.”

He seems to think Pitt can get VA players with the effort they are making.

If I’m a high profile D-lineman and see what Aaron Donald accomplished and how he is getting paid in the NFL - I’d absolutely take a look at Pitt. Pitt should be selling success stories like his hard (I’m sure they are on the recruiting trail).

That strategy is tough when none of the current staff coached AD.

Nope they did not coach him but they have a real good relationship with him and AD has said that. Donald retweet’s PN a lot and PN is smart in tweeting out any AD news.

Clearly there is a good relationship as the relationship PN & staff has with AD helped Pitt get Twyman. PN found out AD was Twymans favorite player and used it to his advantage in recruiting. I’ll bet when Twyman was on an unofficial during the summer he happened to run into AD. If you want to go back through AD’s Instagram or Twitter when he post some of his workouts in the summer you can find a video of Twyman working out with AD last summer. Twyman has said AD gives him pointers.

Here are a few things AD has posted:

AD shouting out #coachdave, nope he did not coach AD but he is smart enough to put AD through a workout anytime he wants.

AD shouting out PN

If AD is going to show support and allow PN & Pitt to sell him in recruiting, PN & Pitt would be stupid to not take advantage of it.

The only thing I'm saying is I've sat in the office of opposing coaches and when a player is asked why he likes Pitt, and a kid brings up Donald, the response everytime is that staff didn't coach him. It's usually followed with some verbal shots too.

One coach said how many sacks have they produced since this staff came on board? They actually knew the #. They'll follow up with things like show me who they've gotten drafted, it's a violation to workout with current NFL players, etc. Notice in all of AD's videos, you never see current Pitt players.

If a kid is a fan of AD, sure exploit that. But, you're not going to convince many 4/5 star DL that pitt is the best choice because AD played here 6 years ago under a staff that in Wisconsin.

If we're talking development, JJ Watt was coached by partridge.

In your opinion, what is the checklist in order of what is most important to big-time recruits?

For example)
1. Relationship with Position Coach
2. Academics
3. Etc....

Bates coached James Harrison at Kent State. I'm not sure who would be the best defensive pro prospect Narduzzi has coached. Trae Waynes at MSU? In his time at Pitt it has to be Maddox?

Proximity rules then...
1. Recent Championships
2. Consistent Winning
3. Facilities
4. Swag within the staff
5. NFL volume.
6. NFL individual success
7. Alumni Resources
8. Academics

But, the biggest factor imo is CONSISTENT communication that is organized and personal. PSU is a machine when it comes to this. They get in early and stay on them for the duration of the process. 1-2X week is the norm for the schools who recruit well.

Thanks....it is interesting that you did not mention gameday atmosphere. Does Pitt recruit your area in MD?

Seems Beatty,Collins,Partridge all should help. The puzzling one still for me is Harley.

Not football but BB I have had many players recruited and many years back I was the one going after players. What you are describing with AD and Pitt is normal recruiting by other schools. As far as knowing the # of sacks by a team it is normal and smart recruiting. If Pitt and another school are both going after a RB, I can guarantee you Pitt knows how many yards the other school rushed for last year. Say the other school does not rush a lot, Pitt will of course bring it up and sell how they had (2) 1000 YD backs. It’s normal recruiting.

Call it negative recruiting or whatever you want but it happens most places. Many good recruiters will do their best to find out who their top competition is and do everything they can to sell their school and basically put down the other schools.

It’s one thing to try and sell Larry Fitzgerald (almost never at Pitt) but AD spends a ton of his off season training at Pitt. As I said there is video of him teaching Twyman pass rush moves. It’s not like Pitt is trying to sell him in recruiting to most kids but if you get a DL especially a DT why not use what you can. No it’s not the main recruiting tool but if you find out a kids favorite player is AD like with Twyman then they just “happen” to run into each on a visit.

Use every tool you have in recruiting. As was said above Partridge can sell coaching JJ Watt, our DC can sell coaching Harrison, PN can sell coaching B10 D POY Calhoun.

Sell what you can sell and hide ur flaws as best you can.

Good point - If I knew I could “bump” into AD in the offseason on a fairly consistent basis, then that would definitely be intriguing if I were a DL.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try, I'm saying its not very effective.

It will be interesting to see if pitt can capitalize on the DL talent in the wpial over the next 2 seasons. It's pretty good.

PCC has 4 of them, including his cousin.
Westinghouse and West Mifflin have 2 studs.

Seems Pitt really likes Hayes from Westinghouse, Pitt was his 1st P5 offer. No matter how poor the level of the comp is, that’s still crazy he had 26 sacks last year.

PCC, I believe 2 of the 4 have Pitt offers. His cousin and Aaron Beatty. I think Beatty is a big WVU lean, he said they were his dream school when they offered. Seems the twins are getting mainly MACC level offers at this point.

Beatty's problem everywhere he has been (and he has moved around a lot) is the guys he recruits don't qualify -- even at WVU they didn't qualify....

Those Tidewater guys (where Beatty's connections are) are a lot of trouble. In the 90's when the cHokies were cleaning up down there they somehow got those kids in school but at one point I think the Tech program had more arrests than any program in American over a 5 year period.... mostly coming out of those Tidewater area kids.

AD already cementing a legacy at Pitt and throughout WPA. What an incredible gift by him to the University.
