So Cronin has a medical issue and can't coach so the program is turned over to Larry Davis, a guy with 9 years head coaching experience, and they didn't miss a beat.

So if something happened to Jamie at mid season, who on this Pitt staff could actually coach the team?

Knight. Since 2008 he's been the guy. Know a former manager, Knight is the one who really drives guys in practices. Not sure if it's a race thing, an age thing, or the fact he's been there before, but he says things and teaches things in a way few can with these guys.

He's up there with Herrion as the best assistant they've had.

They would probably keep the same principles as Dixon, and he has the players' ears.

Respectfully, Brandin has been #2 during the worst part of Jamie's tenure. The head guy hasn't changed, so I'm not willing to assume that Brandin is gonna come in like Brad Stevens.

He forearmed a guy.....

right in the throat. Purdue put up a shot and the guy turned and looked for his man to box out and instead of putting an arm on the guys chest as players are wont to do, he hit him right in the throat/chin with a forearm. I didn't notice it live and neither did the game announcers, but the ref immediately blew the whistle and called an intentional foul. And when they showed the replay it seemed obvious that he did it on purpose. The refs went to the monitor and, correctly in my opinion, called it a flagrant two foul which means automatic ejection.

He's been that way through good and bad times. Coaches and assistants get too much credit and flack.

Slice couldn't be more overrated. He's like AJ Burnett. Got here at the perfect time but didn't contribute nearly as much as believed.

I agree. On one hand there is no way to fairly measure coaches.

On the other hand, surely some coaches are better than others.

I have no way of commenting on whether Brandin would be a good if he had ..

... to take over. I can only confirm that it would be Brandin who would take over. I really don't think anyone thought otherwise, though.
