Clarion Open Sunday

Kade looks very good so far but has won two matches by medical forfeit while having the lead. Would be better if he could have the chance to finish these matches out.

Curious why Keslar mff out. I’ll have to go back and watch his win to see what happened. Kade has looked very good. Kranitz was a disappointment

Kade looks good, briar is looking pretty good even though he has Mendez next, and limbert gave Vinny everything he could handle, other than that everyone else isn’t providing much.

What Kade did today was extremely impressive. You don’t just “luck” into that type of performance. Interesting as a prospect he was a considered a very good get at the time of his commitment. Never really had any big national wins and fell in the rankings if my memory serves right. Seems to be gelling with coach Gavin and staff and looks great. I don’t recall the confidence he showed today last year when I watched his matches. Needless to say very excited about him

How everyone did:

Marlow: 4-1, 3rd place, only loss 5-1 to champ McCrone
Limbert: 4-2, DNP, only losses 6-5 to Kilkeary and 2-0 to Dillard
Chappell: 1-2
133:
Villareal: 0-2
141:
Priest: 3-2, 4th place. Lost to Mendez by TF and Lemley 12-6
149:
Brown, 4-1, 2nd, Only loss to D'Emillio
Swaim, 0-2
157:
Pletcher, 3-2
165:
MDLP, 4-2
Keslar, 1-0 then MFF
174:
Tongel, 0-2
184:
Gurovich, 0-2
Kranitz, 1-2
285:
Marion, 0-2
Woodi, 1-2

Keslar broke his hand in the win. His mom posted the video on Facebook. It's very strange, as it looks very innocuous. He was either attempting a throwby or was snapped down -- it's hard to tell which -- and posted his hand in the mat to keep his balance.
She said he's to see a specialist on Tuesday to see how bad it is.

Got back late last night from SMU, so haven't had a chance to watch the Clarion Open matches, but some encouraging signs there from Marlow and Brown.
If you read my 5 things we learned from the Blue-Gold Match, you know how impressed I was by him, and his performance in Clarion only supports that belief.
After Babin dominated Marlowe in the wrestleoff, I wasn't sure exactly what that meant, because I didn't know how good Babin was. Yes, he was an NCAA qualifier at Columbia and has a win over Camacho in his career, but you never know with fifth-year transfers.
Babin's dominance against Navy and Marlowe's Clarion showing and the eventual debut of Evan Tallmadge tells me that 125 should have very good depth this year, which few teams have. Whether or not Pitt is good enough at that weight to make some noise in the postseason remains to be seen.
On the other side, I was very disappointed with the Kranitz results. He really hung with Reece in the Blue-Gold Match, making me think he could be very close to his level, but the Clarion results do not show that. He lost 8-3 to Bucknell's Bartush - who went 0-2 at EIWAs last year - and 5-2 to Carson Thomas, who is a very good high school wrestler but who is, after all, still in high school.
