I know we apparently have a huge recruiting class for 2017 - six spots open I believe. I was talking to the head coach from Warren Harding (OH) a week ago regarding 2017 recruit, Derek Culver, . who is the #45 ranked prospect in that class. I was curious as to whether Pitt had been involved at all in him, considering he's a top 50 guy who is within 1.5 hour drive from Pittsburgh. From what I gathered, Pitt seems to really be slow playing the the recruitment. Jamie's called a few times to check in on him, but has not pulled the trigger on an offer and has mentioned a few times he will come to see him work out, but has not. The kid just got an Arizona offer the other day and has WVU, Xavier, Marquette, Illinois, etc. offers. Can't really figure Dixon's approach here.
I guess it really just irks me that you have a top 50 recruit so close to home and Dixon is really taking his time on pulling the trigger on the offer. I guess I could understand it if we had only 2 or 3 spots open and we really liked our chances w/ some other highly-ranked guys, but we have 6 spots open. If Pitt can land 6 guys better than Culver, we will have one heck of a recruiting class for 2017.
I've always been pretty supportive of Dixon, but these last couple years of recruiting are really turning me on him. And then to hear this, kind of just re-emphasizes my feelings that he just is not doing his job as a recruiter.
