The Pittsburgh Panthers did not get off to an easy start with their non-conference schedule. It was expected for them to start 1-2. However, the way they went about doing that is more problematic than the result.
Penn State took down the Panthers by a 33-14 score where Pitt was not competitive for much of the game. Running back and Heisman contender Saquon Barkley ran all over the Pitt defense showing that head coach Pat Narduzzi did not prepare very well.
Pitt was a very competitive team last year that was the only program to defeat the eventual National Champion Clemson Tigers during the regular season. However, all the departed talent has taken a toll on this team.
Losing to the Oklahoma State Cowboys is not that bad and was almost expected. However, losing to Oklahoma State by a 59-21 score was worse than what happened to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and South Alabama Jaguars. Narduzzi is fine for now but it might not be long before his seat starts heating up.
