On your last game of the season your home team with a 7-4 record coming in can’t even get 20k people in this god forsaken city to support them. They would rather support Penn State, the Steelers, Penguins, hell they would do anything but support Pitt sports.

And recruiting will always be difficult because of it

We looked to be the weaker team. That’s not based on fans, that’s terrible execution.

Hell, most college soccer teams play in front of a hundred to a thousand people, they still play the game.

The excuses on fan support ends and comes down to poor play, poor discipline, coaches not helping, and just not good enough players.

A quiet dead stadium should mean less penalties. But not our case, worst penalized team in NCAA and most dropped passes in NCAA. That’s not the results of the fans in the stands.

you think the best recruits want to play in an empty stadium or one filled to the brim with 80 to 100k screaming fans?

Ya think because this team lacks talent , spits the bit, and always loses at home -
May have a bit to do with the lack of support ?

I spent 180 bucks to go watch that garbage in Blacksburg. I can’t blame fans for not showing up for BC. This program has mastered 30 years of cramping the bed. Why would fans show up en masse to see the lame effort put forth today

Other than the Penguins nobody has really done much with regards to championships recently. 11 years for the Steelers hell PSU last went unbeaten when Clinton was in office and the Pirates well lol

Are you f&$king w/ me? If you think ATTENDANCE is the issue you’re as blind as Helen Keller. Pitt hasn’t fielded a team worth watching.

Fact is, these guys aren’t good enough to get upset or excited about. The offense is a total $hit show and they didn’t show much improvement over the course of the season. Fans NOT showing up for Pitt games is the BEST message fans can send.

It hurts recruiting. Players feed off of atmosphere too.

Pitt looking like absolute shit at home doesn’t help

I mean your average joe blow sees Pitt looking exciting on TV let’s say the Duke game thinks “ Hey maybe I’ll see em play the U” watched them proceed to piss away a completely winnable game for no reason on earth.

This cycle goes on and on

It was a miracle they beat UNC on a Thursday night at home game

Attendance isn’t the issue, the result is. We are all used to the SOS. You can cry and complain all you want, but PITT is mediocre and has been for years

You get better in college football by recruiting better. The best recruits have never and will never choose Pitt over some of their rivals who actually have fans and a city that will support them. Hell even the local media shts on Pitt and favors, blatantly, Penn State over them

I went to that shite show and I’m sorry that I did. Fooled again into believing that Pitt would rise to the occasion — modest as it was.

Pitt has attendance problems because they consistently disappoint. Period.

Why would you sit in a cold stadium watching this crap. The way they play this uninspiring crap football will never bring fans in. Let down after let down will do this to you.

That’s a major reason why kids will choose other programs like PSU or ND over Pitt , but whose fault is it ?

Blaming fans for not supporting what has constantly been a disappointing team seems backwards to me .

Play winning ball over a prolonged period of time is how you build a loyal fan base . To sit out in the cold to watch lousy Fb ...good time !

Neither does channel 2, 4 or 11 sports. Never supports Pitt. Nobody in or around Pittsburgh hears any thing about Pitt. And 93.7 the fan. Only talks Pitt pregame. That's it. Everyone that works there is anti Pitt.

It's not going to change by bitching about it, you can say this until your dead the only possible way to change it is to start winning and win for several years. Right now the average fan has given up. The program has shit on there fans by having some truely dispicable performances for years on end. This team has found ways to lose in some of the most obscene ways.

The truth. Pitt has Consistently Disappointed for the past 30 years.

I just wonder how we'd handle if we were rutgers. We make average sound like the end of the world.

By all means, let's blame the fans. Pitt has served up 30 years of crap. It's a freakin miracle that anyone shows up for the games. Great coaches get kids to play regardless. You think not? Look no further then Minnesota this year. They averaged less then 22K through the turnstiles and they have been a Big10 doormat for years, yet PJ Fleck managed to have their team challenging for the division championship.

Stop making excuses...it's all about coaching and we haven't had a good coach in a very long time.

Cruzer

Let’s use another analogy
Pitt hoops was pretty much a doormat and had little history and little fan support,

they hire a great coach and starts winning
Excitement builds .
Fans start packing the place
The team sustains support and the fans stick around
Suddenly it becomes an identity .

And lo and behold the first replacement coach has the most successful seasons in Pitt hoops recent history .

but he leaves and it turns to shit almost immediately .

Everything starts with hiring a great coach .

Simply put - football hasn’t , which is why it can’t sustain any fan support .

honestly - chryst is the only former Pitt coach who has had any success after leaving

We won our division last year.

Minnesota crapped the bed 2 out of their last 3 games. And beat 1 p5 team with a winning record.

Not much different than us in 2009

Except they had actual signature wins

wanny didn’t - he lost to the only 2 good teams on the schedule - plus threw in a bad ncsu loss to boot.

but we did have a great comeback to beat the 5th place acc team in a 3rd rate bowl game

hooray

Ha. That win against psu makes all the difference! Only win against a p5 team with a winning record.

I don’t think recruits want to come to pitt for a lot of reasons. Loses to BC and near losses to Delaware probably right up there. Zero post season wins under Narduzzi. Oh and an offense that can’t score a single TD in the second half.
You’ve seen this offense, would you be excited as a recruit?

An explosive receiver would definitely like this offense. But Pitt needs linemen. Chryst was good at recruiting offensive linemen, with a good line everyone looks better.

We drove up and back from dc metro to watch a flat team.

I understand that the team will never be an elite program until it gets better support from the fans. In all honesty, it will never be an Ohio St., Auburn, LSU...

However, the current team is horribly coached. They make so many terrible errors, pre-snap penalties, fumbles.

There are plenty of teams in College ball - who have less support- found in the lower leagues- that show excellent coaching.

Coach Harris, Chryst, Wannstedt showed improvement in their time with the team. The team has regressed with Narduzzi. He did well with the offense Players he inherited from Chryst. The offense has regressed - and you cannot have any success in modern football without good offense

Problems with fan support should fall squarely on the backs of our countless alumni who refuse to support this team. Yet they'll attend Pens and Steelers games whenever they can. Beyond frustrating.

I agree but the Alumni should show more loyalty then they do.
